First of all, Mahjong is a time-sink game to begin with at first place.
Second of all, it is not a mini game, it is a complicate strategy game developed by Chinese then populated to Korean and Japan just like Gon. It is never mean to be a faster game.
Third, Mahjong may seems to heavily rely on RNG, but it is actually skill based. A real Mahjong master will screw you all over if want to.
Lastly, who said mini game must be attend to western audience? There are a lot of mini games in golden saucer I dont even give a damn for. Did you ever see Asian players complaining about these mini games are not for them? This is clearly targeting Asian audience. I am pretty sure this is a feature welcome by Korean Japan and China FF14

    1. its not complext. It has more complexity than your tipical card game, but this game is far from hard to learn, its more about lucks, ofc. if your facing veteran players its hard but thats it.
    2. yeah writen text isnt enough. But SE isnt teaching anything in this game so *shrugs*
    3. Welcome to ranked games. OwO
    4. Its not that long though. lol
    5. Thats why you learn the game so u dont need to depended on the helping system, but this only problem on higher tier.

Will it die in 2weeks? Maybe. So far ppl enjoying it, atleast all my friends who are nubs and never played the game is enjoying it. So yeah.

    1. It is complex, but this is not a game just about your "hand" This is also about how to anticipate what piece your opponent need and which hand they are after.
    2. There was never a real tutorial for Mahjong, every players learned the basic rules and hands then just on their own from there. If Asian players can do the same, why cant you?
    3. That is the truth right? The vanity in play.
    4. If it is against NPC, probalby not, try it again with all verterns
    5. It is not a mini game, it is a strategy game.

Doomsayer? It may dies on NA, but it will not dies on other region.
The truth is, everything dies on NA server once players obtained all the rewards, takes Rival Wing for example.
Rival Wing is still very active on JP server

My problem with this game is like other threads have mentioned; theres a music scroll locked behind a 1600 rating. A string of bad luck or getting into groups with much more skilled players and you're screwed, because even at novice rank you are losing rating anytime you wind up in 3rd or 4th. Get your rating at the expense of other people, screw em out of an 'achievement' if you can call it one.

I think they should bump up the challenge log reward.

I've no opinion on Mahjong- I'll try it eventually after I get bored with Snekboi Ex and the new 24man. But really, it was a freebie cooked up by a couple of devs in their spare time. And you're complaining about something that is optional and given to you for free (did not take the time or resources of any other content)? That seems a bit... 'ungracious' seems a kinda harsh, but I'm not sure what else to call it.

What I mostly wanted to comment on are a few things about chocobo racing (a pet subject of mine) that have come up in this thread.-

    Bolded for what I'm addressing.

You really don't have to be good at chocobo racing to succeed in the R300 bracket. All you need is 1- to understand how breeding works and 2-have sufficient self control to not immediately burn all your stamina.

That's it really. There are plenty of guides online explaining how to breed and train your 'bos, literally all you have to do is follow the directions (I can acknowledge that it becomes a time sink, but it's really not that outrageous of a grind). Beyond that, the skill ceiling is extremely low. With the "perfect" bird, you are going to wreck the NPCs and any player with a lesser bird you go up against. And even then, you will very, very rarely ever encounter another player. The vast majority of your races will be against the same small pool of easily predictable NPCs. In the R300 bracket, there is only one NPC 'bo that even comes close to challenging my perfect chocobo and, even then, I usually only lose to her if I have extremely bad luck (miss power-ups, hit by a lot of abilities, etc.).

There is a leveling system but 1- you are mostly going to be competing against NPCs 2-there is a bracket system in place that is based on both your bird's actual level and pedigree level (higher bred birds are better than lower bred birds even if they are the same actual level) so that you'll always be facing NPCs and players that are around the same skill range and 3- chocobo racing is capped at the R300 bracket and has been since the release, so with even just a week or two casual breeding and racing, you can catch up to people who've had the perfect 'bo for years.

As KageTokage said, there're no lanes, it's just sluggish because everything is tracked server side. It's something you get used to fairly quickly though.

    However-

The server checks are less about cheating and more about the player being able to tell with absolute certainty where they are in the race. Otherwise players, especially those with a high ping, could see their bird cross the finish line first but if their computer and the server weren't in perfect sync at that moment, then they could still lose to a bird that looked like it was behind them. I assume SE just didn't want to have to deal with all of the tickets and threads that the ensuing rage would produce if that was a common occurrence. Same goes for AoEs, Power-ups, or anything else that's reliant on the chocobo's pinpoint position or timing. Tracking server side ensures that everyone is on the same page, no matter what their ping is.

There are lots and lots of music scrolls in the game. What is so important about this one?

When you are a collector, then you want everything, just to complete your collection. If you can't complete the collection, then there is no point to further collect at all. Okay, that's a bit exaggertion, but only a little bit.

You will make compromises. Uh, this is locked behind this ranking and I can't have it. This Triple Triad card is locked behind Eureka and it's dead content because it's 2020, so I can't have it. This minion is locked behind Diadem, this mount behind PvP ranking, this Chocobo barding behind Screenshot-Contests...

And at one point the collector can't complete any of his collections anymore and will cancel his sub, because what's the point anymore?
