[Spoilers] About the ending of the 4 beasts story

First of all, I'd like to wish you all a happy new year and all the best.

Now about the main topic, I wonder if I was the only one disapointed by Oryu's design, which is just a bigger version of the Kirin mount.

We've been teased about Oryu's come back since Byakko, and tried to prevent that. When it happens, we are meant to expect a huge and powerful yellow dragon. How in the world Kirin's huge dad is supposed to be Oryu ?

This is a reused asset, the only difference being it's bigger than the original. Same shape, same colours, same ... everything.

It felt really weird, because it's so obvious.

It doesn't feel right, for a MMO as big as FF14, to reuse assets in this way (and keep in mind that I'm not against assets being reused because it happens a lot in video games in general). But this felet completly out of the place, and plain laziness.

It actually felt like watching a Machinimia, made by fans.

I only see one explanation to this : they didn't have a new model ready for the update's release and chose to use this one instead. In any case, this isn't (in my opinion) okay.


I am quite disapointed by this, and it makes me question the game's direction a lot. I'd like to know how you feel about it.

it was already teased in the last patch, when we saw his siluette looking like kirin...sadly.

Yeah, the Suzaku patch showed that it was Kirin.

I'm more disappointed there was no solo duty where you fight the dumb thing alongside the Four Lords.

I guess I didn't notice during the suzaku cutscene ...

I was expecting to at least fight Oryu a bit too, as the Warrior of Light already faced among the strongest beings on Hydaelyn. To think Oryu would simply destroy us in seconds feels weird too according to the lore.

Because of that, and the lack of a solo duty at the very least, the ending of the otherwise great Four Lords story felt extremely underwhelming. I forgot the teaser in the last patch but really? They just reused assets for the big bad? At least Suzaku changed form even though she was initially a Phoenix/Yol reskin. It would be one thing if they added/changed some things but nope, it's a straight up Kirin clone.

How I feel about it is - I think it's weird that you built up the big bad of this story line to be incredibly important, yet never remembered its name.

Seriously though, it was a little disappointing that it was the exact same model, colors and all.

Well if you played ffxi you would have seen this coming. Kirin was the final boss spawned by beating all the 4 lords, so it was only natural that koryu would be a stand in for Kirin since we already had him.

Could have been a nice throwback to have made him a big ass manticore instead though.

Biggest disappointment to me is that we didn’t actually get to fight him, even just as a solo instance at the end. Maybe having the 4 lords buff us or help us during the fight. It felt like the ending of a beast tribe quest where everything gets resolved in a cutscene and you have little or nothing to do with the climax.

This, my friend and I were hoping against hope we'd at least get a solo instance since we already knew it was going to be a reused asset but no dice. Can't say I'm surprised honestly.

I'm not too disappointed because it was a pretty cool cutscene, but I have to admit I was expecting to get to fight Koryu myself.
