    Overall I think the simple answer to why Artoirel is at Ghimlyt is that it would be strange if he hadn't gone.


    But an idle thought, for an alternate "specific reason" for him to be there that doesn't involve potential tragedy... well, seeing as this is a rather large-scale military operation, the Lominsans would be likely calling on the pirate crews for support, right? In which case Artoirel just might be in the right place to spot an unexpected familiar face...

    (Sure, Carvallain's still in Limsa as usual for the moment, but he has sidequests to participate in.)

    Probably won't happen, but now I want to see it.

    Carvellain promptly scams Artoirel out of his money before Artoirel cottons on. Cue sudden intense feud between them, with Artoirel vowing vengeance and putting together a crew of sea-faring Ishgardian knights!! AND SUDDENLY EVERYTHING IS PIRATES!!!

    Or ninjas. That could also happen.

    I'm picturing the opposite, actually. Instant recognition between them, then (before Artoirel can call him by his actual name) Carvallain takes control of the conversation and introduces himself as if they're strangers, with a clear undertone of "yes, you know exactly who I am and you are not going to say a word of it to anyone."

    Well, the Domans are there. Clearly Artoirel is going to turn to them for help and then we are going to have PIRATES VERSUS NINJAS!!!
