Video Card Crashes during cut-scenes patch 4.5

I started experiencing crashes in in-game cut-scenes after this latest patch. By the way, this only happens in FFXIV. I play many other games and never crash to a black screen the way I am seeing here.

The first time it happened was during the Return to Ivalice questline after speaking to the Bangaa.

Fearing I had a video driver issue, I tried multiple reinstallations of my drivers.

Still no luck, so I took more drastic measures.
Downloaded but did not install fresh Drivers,
Do a Clean Uninstall of Drivers, Rebooted,
Uninstall all my AMD software, Reboot,
Remove all old registry entries for all AMD software,
Run DisplayDriverUninstaller to wipe any trace of the old video card acknowledgment. Reboot into safe mode.
Install downloaded drivers. Reboot, Reconfigure my video card settings.

I was able to progress into the instance at least and play a while... Which brings me to today.

The cutscene during Defectors Tidings after speaking to the Resistance Guard at The Lochs ( 36.4 , 31.9 ) Z: 0.7 is crashing repeatedly. I can't get through the scene at all. It crashes at different points in the scene. I have run XIV with minimal programs loaded (tried without discord as well)


Additionally of note, when I play FFXIV I see 100% GPU usage constantly, I've tried all kinds of different in-game graphics settings in hopes of alleviating this issue.

What kind of crashes are you getting? Do you get a specific error message?

You may want to try reinstalling the game. This should resolve any corrupt files you may have in your install folder. When you do that, make sure to delete the locally saved data as well (My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV). Make sure to create a backup of this so you can replace it if it doesn't solve the issue.

I am going to try another reinstallation (I just did this in August to clean up some XIV issues I was having), but I need a few days before I can do such.

Usually, I am seeing hard crashes when this happens. 99% of the time this results in my screen going black, paired with an audio stutter. I'm forced to manually reboot my system.

I can be playing the same instance one moment and have zero issues, then suddenly crash. If I crash one time while transitioning into an instance, the crash repeats itself over and over and over. For example, the other day while farming Tsukuyomi (Extreme), everything was working normally. Then suddenly I black-screen crashed while the instance transitioned and loaded, after I rebooted I continued crashing every time the instance had to load up again. Luckily I had a nice group of people I was partying with.

New drivers did get released for my video card, so I will be trying them as well.

Please keep us updated in regard to the issue after trying the new graphics drivers. Also please try changing the compatibility mode.

To change compatibility mode, right click on the exe file (Default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn\boot\ffxivboot.exe), right click it and select ‘Properties.’ Select the ‘Compatibility’ tab and select an earlier version of Windows (most likely 8 or 7).
