This is why we cant have nice things.
I kind of quit around Heavensward so I never got to try those on release day. But in comparison, LotA was way worse than this new raid. It wasn't uncommon to get wipes on the first trash pull. The place wasn't even hard, but for some reason there were issues in coordinating simple things, just like with the new raid.

The whole idea of a "Thunder God" is wrong imo. The boss theme is from Vagrant Story's final boss so the boss should've been Guildenstern in demonic look (as is during second / last part of final boss battle in said game). THere ain't any thunder god appearing in VS as well.. and since it takes place in Ivalice as well...
I wonder why did this happen at all.. SE puts a high effort in collaborating with some random utter shit game (MH) but fails to merge own 2 very good games. Tbh, even a trained ape can merge other game's theme. Once a made content, stick to it, please...

So theres an unspoken theme to this final raid of the tier. Ramza and his friends made a great sacrifice to seal away Ultima and keep the world safe. The first 3 bosses are companions who helped Ramza during his quest, with "Thunder God" Cid being the one so strong he basically breaks the original game(FF Tactics - the original ivalice game). Then once you show those guardians youre strong enough to beat Ultima they not only let you in, they help you in the fight(theyre the ones putting up the shield during the Ultima phase transition). So it certainly fits in. Or are you only upset that they used VS music for a non-VS boss?
I think they also destroy the three adds right before that don't they? After the boss goes immune and the adds all start doing their mechancis right before the bubble phase. So theres an unspoken theme to this final raid of the tier. Given that Matsuno worked on all the Ivalice titles, I'm pretty sure he knew what he was doing when he had music added for each boss/approved what music was used. Given that in XIV Tactics story happened long before XII's story while the opposite is true of the Ivalice games we don't even know where Vagrant Story would currently fit in, if it has even happened yet (or ever will. The answer being probably not).
Er... the whole idea behind this arc has been mixing up the various ivalice characters and content. The whole idea of a "Thunder God" is wrong imo. There's nothing wrong with using the VS music over T.G.Cid.
Do you want to complain that the Orbonne Monastery isnt located in the Golmore jungle, or that Goug wasnt the Pharos at Ridoranna?

From the perspective of one who has no idea about FF-Tactics or any titles related to Rabanastre, the Monastary or any of these raids, I can say that T.G.CID was hands-down my favourite encounter of the bunch as well as my favourite boss-theme of the raid. I'm also unsurprised that, after checking for the theme on YouTube after the raid to re-hear it without the pant-wetting chaos of playing it blind, the majority of comments are from people who appreciated the music choice.
There will obviously be those who are a bit more pedantic about such details or would prefer X for Y reason, but as far as I'm concerned... Love it all. It is also no surprise that (now some time has passed) groups are breezing through it. Having done it blind I know more than enough to do it smoothly next time. It is natural for new content to seem difficult when mostly everyone has to learn what it's about. There were a few deaths but even this blind Healer managed to luck my way through it by just keeping an eye on the raid and learning what Cid's animations meant.

Thunder God was fun, I think I prefer Agrias though. That may be in part paladin bias though with the 'sword and shield' mechanics.

I get we all have our preferences/quirks but I'm not sure why those mechanics would matter. Having to stand in some circle with a Sword and/or Shield on it and press F isn't exactly memorable, nor does it make me think of Paladin just because they actually use swords and shields (and I say that as someone who began as a PLD main). That fight (to me) is the weakest of all four raid encounters for various reasons. Thundergod is a different matter as he ticks various boxes that make him resonate with casual raiders - the '3rd-boss-difficulty' reputation (and living up to it) is just one of them.
