I find it really weird that we didn't kill him. Like, I knew the seal wasn't gonna work, that stuff never works, but usually after that we just kill it anyway with the help of the questline relevant people, there was even a dialogue option that said together we can defeat him, which made me think ok there is an instanced fight coming up. But nope, we just seal him back up, we don't even try to fight him. Genbu even admits "yeah you'll probably break free again but it won't be our problem anymore". It's not our usual M.O. to just put the problem off for the next generation to deal with, so that felt like kind of a hollow victory to me.

Well if you played ffxi you would have seen this coming.

This right there is one of the things I outright loathe about SB. It's really unfriendly to people who haven't played other FF games. The entire Ivalice raid was met with indifference from me because they relied on Nostalgia rather than properly writing these characters into XIV's world. The only ones I ended up liking were oddly enough Ramza (I'm a sucker for jerks coming around) and Fran, because they took all the personality that was supposed to be shared between the rest of that quest's cast and infused her with its entirety - I never played XII, no reason to care for her otherwise.
And with all respect to XI, Kirin already exists in the game with established lore. So now to suddenly have it be this big bad is just weak. The only explanation we're left with is that these super duper rare creatures aren't really so rare in certain aspects, which also explains why Suzaku and the firebird mount are practically one and the same when Suzaku is in her bird form.
It's development laziness that reflects poorly on the storytelling.

Joining the choir of people disappointed we didn't actually get to fight our supposed big-bad. I was already shocked when they said this was to be the end of the story but the only trial we were given was Seiryu, but to not even give us a solo duty? That's just... meh.

"Aren't so rare"? We see two instances of two different creatures in the game, a mount and a npc, and suddenly they're no longer rare? You really think seeing two kirin and two phoenixes means they can no longer be considered rare?

Also as far as I recall literally nothing in the game suggested that auspices are always entirely unique in their physical appearance. Rare does not mean there can only be one. I thought it was cool to see Koryu as a kirin. It was an "oh so this is an auspice too" sort of moment. It actually expanded the lore on the mount.

I honestly feel that fighting Koryu would have been predictable storytelling so I'm pretty happy with how the story played out, but I do agree that the absence of a solo trial was a bit disappointing.

Yeah, the Suzaku patch showed that it was Kirin.

I'm more disappointed there was no solo duty where you fight the dumb thing alongside the Four Lords.

I REALLY wanted this as well.

As for OP, I never saw the Kirin mount closely so his model had no similar effect on me.

I loved the 4 lord quest line, though. Soroban is best turtle.

Er... actually, most of the real world myth that the Four Lords is based on includes a golden Kirin or dragon representing quintessence/aether/earth in the center, with the Black Turtle, Blue Dragon (aoi snake is aoi dragon), Red Firebird, and White Tiger being below the Kirin in the divine heirarchy.

So Koyru, being surrounded/contained by the four lords, as a Kirin is not terribly surprising at all.

Was a bit bummed we did not have a duty-fight against it. Wouldn't surprise me if there is a special Wandering Minstrel fight with it later.

It wouldn't surprise me if we have an actual fight against it later, either. Seal it up for now, come back to it when we've become even more phenomenally overpowered and actually stand a chance of beating it.

Sounds like a better plan than sealing it up and declaring it "somebody else's future problem"...

the end was underwhelming it feel's that they where just trying to end it as fast as they could and we just got some gil as reward no achievement that kinda felt weird (Edit forgot about the painting)

This. This exactly at least let me fight the reused asset. I was so hype for at least that but nnnnnnnnnope.

On top of that, the quest to receive Kirin clearly says that it's tied to an Eastern divine beast or something, so...we kind of knew that.

Basically, it's like meeting a powerful angel guardian and that "simply" reuses Kuribu's model.
