the game allows males to wear the bunny outfit, so why are the new gold saucer outfits genderlocked? why is the smock male only when it's already gender neutral anyway? they even have a female version on the npcs. the gown is hideous.

You do realize I hope that the bunny outfit was unlocked for men after long and arduous process of hundredths of posts from people requesting that be done for it specifically, right?!

Using it as an argument to why it should be obvious to be done is quite the exact opposite of what you should be doing.

What kiki didn’t mention is that every outfit in this game needs to be fit and shaped to every race and gender model. They aren’t made to be interchangeable between models but rather so they fit each individual race and gender model and ONLY those models. That’s the way FFXIV handles outfits. They do this as a result of the spaghetti engine code leftover from 1.0 that they never did away with upon rebooting to 2.0 and at this point will likely never update or revise. The bunny outfit for males was the result of 3 years(supposedly) of the devs remodeling the outfit so it would fit to male bodies. I too wish the devs would stop doing this but as things are and as they’ve been it’s unlikely it’ll ever change.

I'm all for acknowledging actual limitations but when you've got an item that was created after 1.0 (so it could easily have been created for male AND female characters, as all of the armour in the game is) AND it's already in the game for male and female NPCs, putting a gender lock on it is arbitrary and unnecessary. There's no "unlocking it" for both genders, it already exists.

In regards to the gown that was a highly requested glam item since HW when the Alpine Jacket was released but female characters were not given the gown. As for the smock it is likely they did not do so because of the out cry that has happened every time they've released a gender neutral outfit and a female only outfit. It doesn't end well for them, this is likely the lesser of the two evils in their eyes.

The point is, the smock is already modeled for midlander female npcs, if you look around you'll see.

The only men wearing are midlander and roe npcs, so they had to model it for the rest of the males too. Why not go all the way through and model for the other female models?

The only reason why I'm not terribly bothered by this specific item being locked for girls, is because the Yanxian Haori is already very similar to it.

While I agree that we don't want to compare these new outfits with the bunny outfit because nobody wants anything to take that long again, I understand OP's point of view - they proved that they can and will go in and unlock outfits originally modeled for one gender... which should have been the beginning of everything being made gender-neutral, not a one-off.
