I got all the atmas for the remaining weapons I hadn't done when it was current in a few hours on one day during heavensward. It's heavily nerfed.

Yeah.. I just did all this.. brace your self. It gets way worse. So yeah... relics are supposed to take time! I get it ive done it in ARR and Heavenswards, but.. we are looking into the new expansion soon, many of level 50 stuff are quick to do... not the relic!!!! Im doing the atma part that requires grinding fates to get 12 atmas to proceed! ... Its my 3rd day.. i grind and i grind and i grind.. ive wasted around 8hrs minimum and i have 5 atmas... They want 12! I get it, dont get me wrong i get it. But we are at a stage that level 50 stuff should be much more easier... Cmon ex trials you can basically solo them. The relic should follow the same pattern by now, dont make it a chore. Make it something one can pleasure in and have a bit of fun. 3 days with 2-3hrs playtime to get 5 out of 12 atmas is a bad bad premisses for something that is so so so outdated. Make it less, make it fun!!
(disclaimer: i have done FULL relics in Heavensward, I understand the "GRIND")![]()
I did it on two characters (one before the nerfs) and I honestly can't be bothered to do it a third time on my current main. *sigh*
For something that's strictly glamour + a title at this point, I'd agree that it's way too tedious. But I can't see them nerfing it any more if they haven't done so yet. :/

There's quite a few completionists for whom it's primarily about the accomplishment of completing it. Being nerfed from it's original duration is nice, but we don't want it completely nerfed down to nothing. It still needs enough grind left to maintain the flavor of the original, and to ensure it's still an accomplishment.
That can be a tough balance to create when not everyone agrees on quite how much of the original grind is needed for it to still feel like it's the same quests.

Its all about luck
I did my ninjas books all in one day
It's definitely the worst part
I think they should let you be able to buy all books at once because there is alot of double ups
I just did the Atma step the other day, it took about 2 hours.
Make sure you have the Zenith weapon equipped.
If one zone is being stubborn (no drop after 3-5 fates) port to another one and come back.
Also make sure the One you are in, actually drops one, there are a few that don’t.
They've nerfed this to the ground. Ask a legacy player what they had to go through and come back.
The Atma portion is actually one of the easiest parts of this quest. Yeah it's random, but it is also easy. I have completed x4 ARR relics, and while it often takes 2-3 days to complete the Atma portion based on my own playtime, you can at least spam the living crap out of the FATEs in attempt to acquire the atmas. That's why it is RNG. The relic quests are designed to keep you busy for a little while, even after you've far out leveled it. Don't sign up if not willing to deal with the uphill push.
If you think this is bad, the books is where most end their ARR relic grind. It is without question the most time consuming part of the quest, and there really isn't anything you can do to make it go faster. The duties that can be done unsynced or with a squadron are outweighed by the duties that are simply too much trouble to do so.
The ARR relics are also the best they've come out with aesthetically, and it is bummer that HW/SB released jobs cannot benefit.
