It's no different than some crappy high-quality gear you get from other sidequests in value anymore.
Please, show me where these crappy high-quality gear pieces from sidequests that I'll use as glam for the life of the game and have no equivalent except for, of course, the other long, drawn out quests might be hiding. Cause ive done every single quest (except a couple of the relic weapons) aaaaaaand I cant find em.

The grind is well worth doing if you want the special glowy weapons.

    First, glamour is personal taste.
Second, I compared the relic to the high quality items based on its practical usefulness.

In case you didn't notice, I didn't suggest turning these quests into 1-minute fetch quests to remove the grind completely. I suggested the grind to take a total of several hours, all quests included. That is an amount of time better suited to get fancy glamour in this game. Stuff like Wolf Mark glamour, getting the items to craft glamour (including the "special glowy armors") etc shows that it's a better-suited "price" for glamour.

The only real problem I have with the ARR relic is the craftables needed for it. We are almost into 5.0 and you STILL can't buy them with currencies, making a Glamour Piece some what expensive to obtain. As much as I hate Eureka at least I don't have to pay crafters for a relic... YET anyway...

Can't you buy the crafted items at Grand Company for seals? They don't even need to be HQ anymore.

That's the Heavensward Relic. not the ARR relic. The ARR relic still needs crafted items that use desythasis materials which is what makes them some what expensive.

Edit: Not to mention a crafted HQ weapon with 3 materia in it just to start the thing.

It was pure hell when first introduced. And no lie it took me 3 months to get the darn atma in Southern Thanalan while friends got theirs the first few weeks

Huh. But I have done one recently and only needed 1h to have all of them + extra because I did it with someone else. It's at a point that I droped 1 atma every 2 fates. At worst 10 for one of them. Then completed the whole relic the day after.
Even when that was new I did that step in 2 days.

    You must be really unlucky.

The drop rate on the atmas is relatively high, and going hours without one is a vast statistical improbability, so I'm far more inclined to believe that they made a mistake.

I suspect the OP probably didn't read the quest text very thoroughly, and hunted for an Atma in a region that didn't actually have one. I made that mistake about a month ago.

    There are no atmas in:
    - Eastern La Noscea
    - South Shroud
    - Northern Thanalan
    - Coerthas / Mor Dhona

I wasted an hour or two hunting some of these zones before I realized my mistake.

Alternatively, maybe they forgot to equip their Zenith weapon.

With all the nerfs it's been through, Atmas have somewhere around a 25% drop rate (maybe 20% or 30%, but something like that anyway). The last one I did, I got all 12 in a day without much trouble. Admittedly, it was a Saturday, when I could play longer than I might have on a weeknight, but it still seemed more like a nerfed version of a former grind than something still worthy of being called a grind.

The books take a lot longer, though at least their content is varied, and that helps quite a bit. I think the only nerf those have gotten is requiring fewer kills of the overworld mobs, though it's still the same number of types. (Well, that and making the required FATEs spawn regularly, which I regard as more of a fix than a nerf. The original implantation made waiting for the FATEs the worst chore — yuck.)

That starting one in the first relic quest no longer has to be HQ, just the specific crafted weapon with 2 specific grade 3 materia. (And now that we have NPC materia melders, you no longer need a crafter to do the melding part for you, though you'll still need to get the weapon itself from a crafter.)

I agree about the Zodiac Braves step, though. Eight HQ three star crafted items, one from each crafting class, each made using something that can only be obtained by desynth with that class (when even those of us who craft are limited to leveling desynth on at most three of them) is a major hurdle. And that comes on top of items from 16 dungeon runs, some pretty expensive GC purchased items, plus some Poetics and gil purchases. That's the step I'm currently on for my NIN relic, and it's the worst yet.
