New Player Job Questions

Jobs in this game don't quite fulfill multiple roles like hybrid classes in WoW, if that's what your asking. The only tanks are war, pld, and drk. The only healers are ast, whm, and sch. The only caster dps are blm, smn, and rdm. The only ranged physical are brd, and mch. The only melee dps are sam, mnk, drg, and nin. No one job is able to be 2 roles when it comes to dungeons and raiding.

Certain jobs do bring different utilities to the group however. Rdm for example has some nice healing abilities (not good enough to be an actual healer however) that might be able to save somebody, and they're useful in solo content/open world content. Rdm is also good at raising people in the middle of combat. Rdm in general is a good dps to chose for progressing content with your group due to their recovery utilities.

So basically to fulfill a different role, you simply level up a new job and change over to that job. If you wanted good mileage for this, you could level up arcanist first. Arcanist goes into summoner, and scholar, and the levels are shared. Meaning if you level up summoner to max level, you only need to go back and do the job quests for scholar and your scholar will be max level already. So you got to level up a caster dps job, and a healer job at the same time. And both of those jobs are quite good at their roles.
