High Level Fishing Nerf? The McFishers need help please.

Tonight Trolle McFisher wearing LVL 60 gear, gathering 606, perception 554 out fished me, Wrolle McFisher tonight. I’m wearing LVL 70 crafted gear, gathering is just under 1200, perception 1000.
Trolle caught all HQ Legendary fish (green ones) yet I caught only regular Legendary. I lost every HQ Legendary fish I hooked. WTH is going on? 100% HQ vs 0% at double her stats.

Trolle caught: 1 Endoceras, 1 Ninja Beta, 1 The Grinner, all HQ.
Wrolle caught: 2 Endoceras, 1 Ninja Beta, and 1 The Grinner, not one HQ.

    Trolle lost 1 HQ fish
    Wrolle lost 4 HQ fish

All fish were caught without patience I or II

    We are both Level 70.

How is this possible without being nerfed?

    I’m quite puzzled.

There's a hard cap on how high of a catch rate you can get for each legendary fish and as far as I can tell none of them are guaranteed.

They could choose to remedy this by having a new ability that raises the chance of hooking a fish sucessfuly in 5.x, though.

I just got up at 4:30am because all day absent weather cycles show up then. 2 patterns timed perfectly so I could hit both. both South Shroud, and the Dunes for Feast of Famine...and failed on 4 attempts to reel in Required HQ. I had only snagging cast, never use patience. Something is off, a full real world day of missing every HQ needed is not RNG. My character has been nerfed the entire day, not subject to some obscure endless bad luck RNG. This also happened to my 9 year old a few days back...failure after failure after failure. What a waste of time, now it’s 6am.

    1. HQ is not required for Feast of Famine.

2.There is no way to know if a fish that gets away was going to be HQ or not. Missing big fish sucks, but you can't really say they're getting away because they were HQ.

The %' caps are what they are and unless SE changes something in the future, being higher geared or leveled beyond the maximum for that fishing tier won't help you. Getting all the legendary big fish, both for ARR and HW, was never a quick or easy affair, and I spent weeks of fishing on both. Just gotta be patient and keep hitting those holes. I think I spent a month, every day, trying to get Sea Butterfly, easily over 100+ windows, before I finally got one (NQ naturally).

EDIT: Also, you SHOULD be using Patience. As long as you use the appropriate hookset for the fish, the catch rate penalty doesn't take effect, and Patience makes catching the big fish that require mooching MUCH easier.

Well, I got the whole 1000 fish for the achievment for the lvl 41-50 fishing spots in Black Shroud while I was trying to catch that legendary fish for the quest.

This 6 fish, and the other 6 legendary fish from Heavensward, are a different league of RNG. It is normal to waste weeks upon weeks on this fish. I am still missing 2 legendary fish from Heavensward... >.>

Don't use Snagging, except the fish requires it. All what you are doing is potentially increasing the amount of different fish in the loot table, wich means you are lowering the chance to catch the fish you actually want. And start using Patience II, with this skill you should have a 100% HQ rate.

Do you know how to use Patience and how to make out if you have to use Powerfull- or Precision Hookset?

I've been using Patience for my fishing, but I can't work out how to apply hooksets. From memory, it won't let me use the hookset skill first, and if I use it after Patience it takes me out of gathering mode (and this cancels Patience).

You use the hookset in place of the Reel in ability. So you would hit the appropriate hookset (precision or powerful) when the fish bites.

Thanks - that explains why it's not working! But very unintuitive as to when you would actually apply a hook to your line!

Think of it this way. You arent changing the hook on the line, youre changing how you hook the fish. Do you use a powerful tug or a precise one? The powerful one may yank the bait right out of the mouth of certain(smaller?) fish, the precise one may fail to hook certain(larger?) fish.
