    Squadron(Melee) being slow?

Sooo, i've started the journy of leveling my squadron! i did all my casters and ranged, and it went smooth AF!

So today i started leveling melee classes... and... mother of god.. they act so weird compared to Ranged! i tell them to attack, so they stand still for a good 2-3sec.. then run in, do a coupple of hits, then randomly runs arround like chickens, then attack some more.. and well.. yea... they kinda live their own lives... at one point, i did a boss(i played as PLD) and the melee squadron members, they joined in on the fight when the boss had lost like 30% of its hp...(yes, i was spamming the attack button) but to no prevail.. they seem to just live their own lives! :O

tried to find a pattern in this.. but its all random! sometimes they work just fine, and sometimes they wont join a fight untill the mobs are at 20% hp left!

Anyone else seen this? i mean, i cant be the only one?

the ranged classes works 100% fine on my end, its just the melee!

For me ranged are the ones that stink for this and for different reasons. Idk how many times I wait til everyone gets into the arena to start the boss battle and the ranged run out, then get locked out so its me and the tank. I learned early on that if you just hit engage while moving like you can in packs its almost guaranteed they lock themselves out unless the arena is huge. So I always have to watch them close, disengage to move the entire pt to the back and then reengage.

But my ranged still do this too, just stand there doing nothing for awhile. My tank also wont grab all mobs, I often need to engage each mob in a pack individually because the tank wont use aoe enmity skills and I will end up tanking them all even if I am standing on top of tank, they just focus on the one mob. This is esp true with adds.

The AI on squads are a nightmare, I can about imagine how bad trusts will be.

yea, i tank the dungeons! actually, the healing is spot on! was surprised AF by that! (about 97% of the time) sometimes the healer borks out tho!
i've never had melee, or ranged get stuck outside a lockout on a boss, except for one time, where the healer was stuck outside, but on my end the healer just got teleported inside.

i guess it acts differently for everyone then! as ranged classes are 100% solid on my end, where as melee is a nightmare!
Thanks for the reply man! funny to see that it acts differently for people!

What’s the major purpose of Squadrons? I have recently started leveling mine (as in, they are level 19..

I don’t quite understand it all, how many members can you have? I have 7, and keep turning them down because I have all DPS except one tank and one Healer.

Do they bring back useful rewards eventually? I don’t craft, and honestly I don’t recall seeing a bunch of hype for squadrons ever. Aside from ranking up in the GC, is there really a reason to you with them?

Squadrons. You can have 8 members. Theres no in-game reason not to just accept the next one who applies to be your 8th. If someone comes along later who you like the look of more you can just add them and it has you choose which member you replace. And later on you can switch their classes, so that isnt much of a limiter either. What can they bring back? Ive seen chemistries that pay out in scrips(either crafting or gathering), company seals, MGP, gil, materia and i think wolf marks. Once youve done the work of leveling them up and getting a good set of chemistries, sending them on missions to bring back whatever takes a minute or two a day. What else are they for? Well the highest GC rank requires using them. If you dont care about that, you can also use your squadron as an on-demand group to go into a pre-selected set of dungeons without needing other players or to wait in the que. Squadron AI is hit or miss(as evidenced by basically every thread about them), but its an alternate source of exp you can use if you like.

Yeah, i have a stack of the cheap teleport ones. To slightly clarify, the buff manuals Tint is describing are pre-set rewards for completing some of the harder(and weekly limited) missions. The stuff i listed off can be returned as a reward for any mission(including the dungeons you run together).

So in terms of usefulness, I don’t have the slightest idea what “scrips” are, and I despise crafting professions in all of its forms (In every game, it’s just not entertaining to me), so essentially, I’d be looking for...currency rewards?

Scrips are a special currency. Crafting ones buy crafting things(mats, materia, gear), gathering ones buy gathering things(ditto). If you want the tl;dr version its currency, self buffs, and an alternate solo exp source.

The problem I noticed with melee squadron members is if you try to use the Engage button on a target, they turn on nearly ALL their buffs on first (especially Diversion and Bloodbath), before attempting to fight the enemy. Their "rotations" are very different from those of normal players (Rogues with the "Death Blossom" aoe move on a SINGLE target, I'm looking at you.)

But if you keep on doing squadron dungeons with them and rng is blessing you, they'll probably have the "Offensive" trait unlocked and they can do more damage and melt the enemies faster.
