Agreed, this game is the only one I know of that seems to punish you for having more than one character. It sounds like fun but seems very unlikely. First they'd have to acknowledge that people do make alts and that there should be at least some basic QoL features to make it less of a pain. Especially since they know we pay a bigger sub to even have alts on the same server and have to buy mogstation items separately for each character. Giving us something in exchange for the extra money we're throwing at them wouldn't go amiss... n_n
They could start by giving us a way to transfer items between them without having to bother other people or use the company box >.> Every other MMO lets players do that, I will never understand or accept any excuses for why this one does not.
People had to exploit a glitch just to be able to add alts to their friends list.

It doesn't reward having alts, but does not punish them.
"Alts" primary purpose in the old times was to have characters of multiple jobs. In games with a single class per character that allowed people to play more than one class. In here you can have all the classes on any character so there is no practical point to alts.
And by the way, exploiting the game to add alts to friend list can get you banned. If for no other reason then because that more than doubles your inventory space. This game doesn't allow trading items to alts for a reason. Whether we agree with it or not is not the point. The point is that these people have practical advantage over those that do not exploit it.
Also, adding yourself to a friend list is anything but "a given". The tone in which you wrote that suggests otherwise. Quite frankly...it's a ridiculous notion. And exploiting the inventory space is literally the only reason for that...so there's the malicious intent.

"But but you can just do everything on one character"
But I like having alts for a variety of reasons. Before you go on, I'm not complaining, it is what it is.
Old times are just that. Old. Modern games let you do all the above.
If everyone could trade between alts *poof* no more "advantage".
Everything else you said has nothing to do with the topic at hand. I don't condone exploits and never have.
My point was that folks went through extreme measures for a feature that other games have had for years.
Keep your passive aggressive tone to yourself![]()

Honestly speaking, I always considered it a price reduction for NOT having alts. The non-entry subscription is the base. So it's not that you are paying more money. It's that those that use the entry subscription pay less.
Though I do agree that it is...questionable...practice to say the least, it have nothing to do with punishing you for playing alts. It's like saying that you are punished for wanting a first class flight because you have to pay more than the economy class. You pay more for more service since their costs are higher. How much higher their costs are compared to the price difference doesn't matter here.
That's fine. I don't care, nor does anyone else. But you liking something doesn't mean that you're punished for getting it at all, let alone for being able to get them but with a caveat.
Doesn't matter. Ever heard the terms "old-fashioned" or "nostalgia"?! "Newer" does not mean "better" and "older" does not mean "worse". A free alt support is nice and all, but saying that it should be included only because that's how "modern games do it" is using a poor argument for your cause.
"If everyone could one-hit bosses, *poof*, no more advantage from one-hit-kill exploit."
The game is not supposed to allow you that. It's simple as that. Weave it like you want, but they are exploiting the game systems to get advantage that they should not have. I wouldn't care the slightest bit in single player game...but I do most certainly care in a multiplayer game. If they want to use their alts as mules, they should at least go through the inconvenience and risks of doing it through a middle-man like the game systems permit.
This is not "other games". There are many things I dislike in this game. And yes, I personally am not particularly fond of this deal with alts, how they divided it into standard and entry subscriptions and in general how certain things surrounding that are made. But that does not mean I have the right to expect it.
It's called karma. Your post was passive aggressive as well. Instead of saying that you'd want them to do X or Y you are accusing them of punishing you for X or Y. Those are two different tones and even if they ultimately do the same thing, show that you'd prefer something in a different way, the manner in which they do is entirely different.
