I kind of envy the people with enough expendable income to even consider buying gil in the first place, especially at the ridiculous rates they try to sell it at. There simply isn't enough to spend it on...but I honestly don't mind if it stays that way since it would just encourage even more botting and RMTing then there already is.

But in all seriousness, there isn't any way to realistically prevent RMTing entirely with how many sources their gil is coming from. Even if they could keep the hacking, mass-produced gil farmers in check, you also have both RMT bots and legitimate players earning gil through the MB and selling it off.

In the end the chance is fairly low though. Most games rarely ever go after the buyers. To me this whole situation reminds me of the legit vs illegal streaming sites. Sure people will always use illegal streaming sites but if SE offered a legitimate means of buying in game currency, akin to WoW tokens people will use those. Not sure of the numbers and I am going based off assumptions here but if you cannot beat them join them I guess.

The problem with making it legit, and likely cheaper than the RMTs is that a far greater number of players will use it, and the market will collapse due to extreme inflation.
WoW tokens would work though as its not generating new gil.

I should have explained sorry I do not mean SE outright starts to sell in game currency, since I do agree that would have long lasting negative impacts. I also agree a system like WoW tokens would allow players who are willing to spend irl for some in game money, and also gives those with more in game money another means of getting items off the cash shop.

And if you spam it often enough in a short time period people will report you for spamming and you'll probably see a GM pretty soon because they are right.
