Question About Sharing a Character

I was in a PUG earlier this evening and we wiped, looks like the healer stopped healing. The guy then came on Party Chat, apologized and said his girlfriend took over while he did something.

I don't care about wiping, my concern is... are people allowed to share a character? I.e. two individuals playing one toon? If not, this guy was cheating. Anyway, I left the duty and reported him. Not sure what else I can do. I feel awful about it, guilty that I was in the part but I had no idea.

Can someone confirm of this is or is not allowed and is there any other action I can take (having the XP removed or whatever?).

If SE isn't going to ban someone for buying gil, doing speed exploits in pvp, or multiboxing multiple characters in a dungeon and setting one or more of them on follow(yes I've come across this) then they ain't going to do nothing about someone letting their GF play their character while they go to the bathroom, ect. The only thing I know that will get you banned is for using third party programs like a parser.

Well technically it is account sharing because the player did allow someone else access to it other than themselves, but unless they were trolling and were actually detrimental to your Duty then chances are SE won't be bothered by it.

I don't see the big deal.... he had to run to the bathroom so he passed the controller off for a moment. I think the account sharing rules are more so that you can't complain if the other person screws with your stuff. Takes liability away from SE. "Well, we told you not to do that, so..."

Lawl. In the 3.X 24 man stuff I've reported a few people who were controlling more than one character and admitted it (Admitting to logging onto friend's account/ect). Reported them mid instance, since they were causing issues in the raid rather than helping prevent them, and oh hey, they suddenly vanished.

You can only report it if they state it in chat in any shape or form, and only in the XIV game chat. Otherwise just kick said player and move on.

It's allowed. There is mention of not giving account info to other people in section 3.1:

but that's to cover themselves if the person given the account information does something they're not supposed to. If giving account information was punishable, most content sales would be prohibited, though in your case this is all extra info as no account info was exchanged.

As for the cheating aspect, you gained no real advantage, so you shouldn't let it bother you.

....I’m pretty sure he simply asked his girlfriend to take over for a second. Considering that you wiped I have a feeling that she had never played the game until just then or has little to no experience playing as a healer. Either way that would mean they most likely do not share a character.

What kind of cheapskates would share an MMO character?! You’d have make sure you both like the way it looks all the time. I mean you’d have to be an intense cheapskate or extremely poor to willingly deal with that.
