This goes for so many classes and not just dragoon. Healers and mages or sam/monk/nin and ranged. I understand why they do it and I guess it solves resources problems but I wish if drgs are gonna wear gear that looks like tanks they'd give us a little more defense.
For some odd reason I remember drg being more durable in def in arr(not mdef holy dear god) so heavy looking gear that resembled the tank made sense. Now devs are just cutting corners and other than aesthetics theres no point. But might I point out that drg often has recolors with sam/monk/nin and not just tanks. So in that sense we have more variety than say healers and mages.
I wish the jobs I played shared gear skins with tanks.
Also I mean.... out of all the jobs, I believe DRG has the most unique skins in total.
ARR dragoon actually shares a lot of armour with tanks.
There's standard lightweight DoW armour, then mid-weight "scale mail" that can be only equipped by tanks and lancer/dragoons, then heavy tank-only armour.
Essentially it allows you to pick between being a light-geared DPS with boosts to things like skill speed, or the heavier defensive armour.
Yes, well, pretty much as of Heavensward this has been true of dragoon gear, and I'm not the only one who is tired of it.
This is hardly a Dragoon Specific problem. And as Doozer said, it could be argued that Dragoon actually shares it's gear model or theme less than other jobs because of the devs commitment to making light armor for Dragoon and heavier armor for the tanks.
In Heavensward for example it was the only job to get it's own model of gear based on Garuda for the Primal Sets while Striking shared the inferno gear style with Tanks, not Dragoon. Whereas Healer and Caster gear is almost universally palette swaps of each other, and Striking/Ninja or Ninja/Aiming gear will almost always share a palette swapped model.

Just looking at the Eorzean collection to get a look at Heavensward gear to see how they all compare.
The Diabolic set has the Tank/Maiming legs sharing a model with Tanks but the Maiming set is largely Unique for Dragoon and the Fending set is Largely Unique for tanks, while Striking/Scouting shares models and Casting/Aiming share entire models.
The Alexandrian sets have shared models between all gear except the tank set, with most every set sharing at least one piece's model with another.
The Shire Set has most sets having completely unique pieces for each role.
Star Velvet has Striking/Scouting/Aiming share a model. Dragoon/Tanks share a Model. Healer/Casters share a model.
All Filibuster Sets are Unique for each role. They all get reused later in 4.4 dungeon gear with recolors.
The Midan set has Maiming/Striking share models, Caster/Healer sharing models, and Ninja/Aiming sharing models with Tanks being unique.
DRG and the tanks have unique Garo sets. The Female Striking/Healing sets share models. Most of the others have thematic similarities but aren't identical
DRG has a unique Primal set. Striking/Fending share models. Healers/Casters share Models. Ninja/Aiming share models.
The only crafted 220 gear that's unique is the tank set. Everybody else shares models with three other roles for every other piece, Maiming/Striking are identical and share models with the Caster head, chest and hands.
Gordian sets have DRG/MNK share models, Tanks are unique, Scouting/Aiming share models, Healers/Casters share Models.
All AF gear is obviously different.
So overall, Dragoon actually has the most unique models for it's gear of the DPS in Heavensward by two sets, with Tank gear being unique the most often.
So really everybody but Dragoon should be complaining about not getting unique models.

How about you sketch something that you like... something that appeals to how you see your Dragoon in some "original" gear... and submit it on the suggestion forums?
I doubt they'll do this. All tanks get the same gear, all casters get the same gear, all healers get the same gear. Physical DPS get more variety in that they are split between Striking/Maiming/Scouting/Aiming. The fact that those 4 sets can be different, if not color swaps of other sets is still a boon. Just be glad all DPS gear is not identical like tank/healer gear is.

By my eye, it looks like WHM/SCH has almost as many as DRG. The gap gets a little bit bigger next patch, mind you. So we'll see how it plays out. But by my eye, the roles that need unique gear the most right now?
NIN and MNK.
Conclusion?
Healers and casters, if they're gonna target someone, should look at Tanks, who get the most unique gear out of all classes (Nearly double) from Tomestone/Raid gear. Instead, they are whining and targetting dragoons as 'special snowflakes' who humerously as it turns out - is actually relatively close to the same amount of unique gear pre-3.2. And of course, they completely neglect the MNK/NIN's, who almost always wind up being palette swaps of one another even though they're two different sets. Even giving healers the benefits and not calling 'all casting/healing' gear the same, they are STILL in a better place than MNK's and NIN's.

Edit @8:35 PM; my girlfriend pointed out that the Second Coil set, the BRD is literally a reskin of the Caster set. Fixed.
This was information Eidolon posted in a thread i made nearly 3yrs ago about caster/healers getting identical gear this is up to the reveal of the primal set in HW.
I will go over and add the gear sets to this since then but i probably can put very safe money on those bottom 2 not budging so before asking for dragoons to have more unique stuff (Which tbf i would love every job to get unique armour all the time but ik it isn't feasible) let the other melees have more unique 1st and maybe rotate it around
