Heavensturn & the Twelve

Is anyone else wondering which of the Twelve have been watching over the years as they go by since... 2014?? That's the last year that I can find any reference to which of the Twelve ascended to rule the year (it was Nophica).

I see mentions in the flavor text every year along the lines of "The Twelve once more convene" but then... no follow up. Do they just all get drunk on divine eggnog and watch Eorzea descend into madness for another year or what? Who's running the heavens??

Another question, how is it 5-6 years after the Calamity still if we keep celebrating Heavensturn yearly? I think that flows into your question too as well.

I feel like we just did a Twelve check recently, too. Let me go look for that. In the meantime...

Where I've landed with the holiday events is to assume that they occupy a space similar to Hildibrand and cross-overs; that is, a bubble with a one-way membrane is created around the content within which everything that's true in Eorzea is true in the bubble (so you can reveal historical facts if you want to), but not everything that happens in the bubble can be brought out of it (Yo-Kai, surviving a fall from the moon or a bomb to the face, 5 years of celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Calamity).

I see the holiday events as an in-character greeting card from the Dev. Team; top shelf role-play where the devs can act like Eorzeans and Eorzeans can break kayfabe.

Considering the 5.0 keynote revealed the literal life or death battle to prevent the 8th and final Umbral Calamity and/or undo the damage of a potential disaster of Light, ooobviously 2019 will be the year of Nald'thal.

A small aside, I love that our year in darkness was the Year of the Snake, just before Zodiark was made the big bad.

I totally agree with everything Anonymoose said, but I also might want to add in an idea of 'Soft Canon' to it. This applies much more to Hildibrand than the seasonal events admittedly. "Soft Canon" means that the events sort of happen in the course of the story. If they did though, they're not exactly in the way that they are represented. For example, parts of the Hildibrand quests are probably true. The history with Belah'Dia is almost certainly accurate, and it's not too out of course to imagine that a weird detective might be investigating crimes in Eorzea. But in 'reality' chances are they're probably far more simple and have a bit less slapstick to them. For Seasonal events, 'soft canon' can be applied to say that the holidays exist in Eorzea, but them giving out present throwing bears or modern swimwear probably does not. Events are more fun than anything after all.
