My QoL wishlist as someone coming from WoW.

So like many others I am new to FF14 after jumping ship from Wow. I am having a blast with FF14 and really enjoying the story so far. There are just a few minor QoL issues I would love for them to address to make this even more enjoyable.
    1. Allow me to keybind my mouse wheel up/down to whatever I want. I feel like this is a very easy thing to implement and is likely something many people would enjoy.

    2. Fix macro error messages, specifically give me the option to turn off error message that pops up in center of screen and error sound effect.

The error i'm getting is "invalid target" when I attempt to make help/harm macros. As in if I'm targeting enemy it'll attack and if I'm targeting ally it'll heal. These macros are super helpful on healing classes and would tremendously cut down on amount of keybinds needed. The macros I use work, but the damn error message and sound drive me crazy. Please give me the option to disable them. (I have tried all solutions and no matter what options I disable or what commands are put in the macro the error message that pops up center screen and error sound effect remain.)

What things would be on your QoL wishlist? Anything we know about upcoming changes that would address any QoL issues? Thanks!

The good news is you can do this! <-- E: Turns out I am wrong and misremembering and bad.

The bad news is I’m at work so I don’t remember the line to add to the macro right now.
E: come to think of it the line you add to the macro might be to suppress the chat log message and it might be a UI setting to disable the mid-screen error and sound effect. Chances are someone will help you out soon but if I get home and there’s still no answer in the thread I’ll check for it.

The ugly news is you absolutely should not use that type of macro in this game.

Unfortunately, for reasons we may never know, macros are unable to take advantage of the ability queue, that window at the last 15% of your GCD that lets you send a command to the server to be executed the instant your GCD is up. As a result, if you use a macro for a GCD ability in this game, your global will always be delayed by an amount equal to your ping. This will crush your DPS and response time and is a sad fact we’ve always had to live with in FF XIV.

Thanks so much for the reply! Unfortunately, I am pretty sure I've tried what you are suggesting.

In the macro I've tried "/macroerror off" in the actual macro and also have Character Config > Log Window Settings > Display errors when actions fail turned off. The error message still pops up center of screen with error sound as well. If anyone can walk me through some way to disable this so I can use my harm/help macros in peace it would be greatly appreciated! (and although I know these macros aren't ideal I am more concerned with ease of use than I am with efficiency)

    Thanks again for your input!

I've got mine shut off for the log, not sure you can shut the onscreen ones off? I use some pet actions on macro...sometimes and if the target is not valid, or out of range, or Eos got herself into a bind again...I get a message. Have you tried out mouseover targeting? I dunno if there's any lag associated with it (I haven't noticed anything) but I found it very much speeds up my single target healing. It's one of those things that'll be personal preference I'm sure, and I had to adjust my methods accordingly. Note that it works on the target list too, you can even focus target the tank, keep them focused, and mouseover the list for them jiddle-dancing melee dps.

With all the videos of people quitting WoW and hating what it is now, I am more curious than ever how many of them are jumping ship to come over to FFXIV.

Ah, that's too bad! I really wish there was a way to get rid of the annoying error message/sound. The slight delay with using macros I can deal with. The annoying sound and message pop up I can't stand.

I haven't experimented with the mouseover macros, but I'll have to give them a try. Thanks!

I'm sure there are loads. The biggest initial turn off for me with FF14 was the long GCD. Well WoW went ahead and implemented a longer GCD and now FF14 by comparison doesn't feel that bad. Especially once I leveled up and got a lot more oGCD abilities. By the time I've got a job up to around 40 the combat is pretty fast and fluid. Really digging it so far.

Plus I love the personalized story for each job. I loved alts on WoW so can see myself eventually leveling all the jobs if only to see all of their stories. Good shit!

Got home and took a look and it may just be that I'm a crazy person. Sorry!

The most common "error" I would've expected would have been if I used a mouseover macro without a target, but apparently that's a different type of error (a syntax error, because <mo> is not a valid target, rather than an ability error). If I do stuff to force myself to error out a combat ability, I still get the red text onscreen.

Still, I would implore you to reconsider the type of macros you're talking about. If it was just a slight performance penalty, I'd say okay, you do you as long as it's casual content. But it's a huge hit, I'm sorry to say. Several lost GCDs over the course of a fight just to the latency, but even worse is the fact that you're not going to be able to get a last hit off before you need to move, or a heal (who am I kidding nobody uses GCDs to heal) before someone dies. I know there's some pretty bad ability bloat in this game on many jobs. My Paladin has 49 main combat-use hotkeys. But if you build muscle memory on macros that will fail you later on down the line, you're going to have a lot of re-learning to do.

A word of advice, the order in the macro determines target priority.

    /macroicon "cure"
    /ac "Physick"<mo>
    /ac"Physick"<t>

for instance. I use it on Physick, Aldo, Esuna, and targeted pet heals and like I said I've never noticed any latency, but realize queue will NOT work with it so you need to decide whether you care. I've never had any issues healing anything even some of the Savage stuff (I do not raid anymore, after playing since 2.0 I'm now a filthy casual xD) My personal preference was giving up queue for quick, simple targeting.

Please don't macro you combat skills unless you

    A) Really like mouseovers (even then only for ogcds)
    B) Fiddly targeting macro's like dragon eye or salted earth, even then doing it normally is better
