FFXIV Chess as Gold Saucer board game

The recent announcement of Mahjong as a Gold Saucer board game has made me and my friends to instantly want Chess to be introduced too. I could not help but Imagine FFXIV Chess to be played like Harry Potter Chess, with animated pieces and effect. I don't know much about lore if there is already a FFXIV Chess with it's own set of rules tho.

But what of FFXIV Chess if we don't add any FF flavor to it?


Warriors of Light x Warriors of Darkness

Appearance:

♚ White side King: Hydaelyn
♚ Black side King: Zodiark

♞ Knights: Dragoon
♝ Bishops: Healer Jobs
♛ Queen: Tank Jobs
♜ Rooks: Melee, Ranged and/or Caster roles. Need to select one for each Rook before queuing in.
♟ Pawn: Light Manifestation / Dark Manifestation

When a pawn reach the other side of the board it fills completely the Limit break bar and the player need to immediately choose one of the possible available Jobs alive and give the stack to that Job to be used when needed without the enemy side know which Job has the stack.

Limit breaks:

♞ Knights: Can move with either 3:1 L form or a 4:2 L form. Can choose to instant land, or be in the air during 1 round, then landing, without the enemy team know where he will land.
♝ Bishops: Able to raise a Job that has been KO. The Job Piece will spawn where the Pawn (manifestation) is and replace it. This need to be executed immediately.
♛ Queen: Able to save the king from a Checkmate by switching places with him, provoke the enemy and sacrifice herself, the enemy is forced to kill the queen on the next step.
♜ Rooks:
-Caster role: AoE with a form of / or \ , which is centered on the target. (3 squares)
-Melee role: AoE with a form of | or - , which is centered on the target. (3 squares)
-Ranger role: Line AoE who hits 2 more squares after the targeted enemy. (3 squares)

This could bring slight new strategies, without changing much the core gameplay.

Speaking of minions, I really don't know if I would like to see Minions used in the place of the Chess pieces... Maybe as a optional glamour, but I want the default pieces to have a intimidating look.

In any case, I would definetely buy some real life FFXIV Chess of the WoL x WoD.

In any case, I don't know if SE will bring forward the idea of adding more board games to Goud Saucer, but my suggestion is here for when they look into Chess.

Along with the most popular variants of Mahjong could be extra fun to see Xiangqi (Chinese Chess) variant if they add western chess.

They'll definitely need to let us build tables in our houses, and imo they should consider craftable portable sets as well. How fun to play chess with friends in some of the pretty locations in FF.

I feel Go should be added then at some point too but yeah sorry for going a bit off topic lol. Yes, chess is cool please add. (And add a furnishing/portable set ^_^).

Excellent suggestion. I love the idea of collect glam chess sets. I'd also love the idea of being able to play chess also anywhere really but you can still earn mgp and have tournaments just like triple triad.

Plus it does seem like a low cost/high reward sort of implementation so it should be possible. The only question that remains is how many would back this up to warrant being considered by SE.

Could Odin statue that stuff maybe? Fancy FF theme'd chess set (physical board and pieces), includes a special version in the game that is also portable (play where you want). Just be sure that they add a portable version in the game too for MGP or whatever (doesn't look the same of course). When you use someone else's board you could optionally still use your own unique pieces, such that they could add a few different versions in game (and those who have the special version have that option as well).

Benefit of them doing real games is that they have value beyond a prop (you can play these, they're games literally!). Real Chess, Go, Xiangqi, Solitaire, Mahjong sets all with FF theme'd designs and something special for the game too.

This is a bit off topic again but it could be interesting to consider letting players of the mog companion app to play these real games, and triple triad included, with other players actually in game at the time. Rather than playing some other app on the store for chess you can play a pretty version with some nice music .

I'd love this! This would definitely plant my ass in Gold Saucer (when I wasn't running Eureka, that is), that's for sure!

Probably another big stretch, but I'd also like to see the board game Go added to the Gold Saucer as well (even though I've only played it a few times). But I'd also think that they'd have to add a "Quiet Room" for these. It wouldn't make much sense otherwise.
