    Your favorite job stories

Before we begin, I would like to apologize if the same kind of forum has been created but my researches turned up nothing. Feel free to move or delete it if that's the case.

So, it's all in the title folks. What is or are your favorite job stories? You can also tell us about the ones you thought were okay or just didn't like. I'll start.

    My favorites:

-I don't think it will come as a surprise as I have seen many people say the same but DRK is my favorite job story. I loved the writing in it, the characters and how it explored the WoL's character. It also had some sad and funny moments which impacted me in the good way.

-SAM from 50-60. Being a Samurai Batman? Sign me up. I loved the relationship between Musosai and Momozigo as well as Musosai's character development and struggles throughout the quests. And the "end" oh boy I was not ready for the feels.

-I'm not finished with it yet but I really like the Rogue story. The characters are fun, I love their backstory and there are some funny moments.

-AST in its entirety. The characters were well developed and it was very nice learning about the job as whole. Special mention to the 60-70 quests which I thought were the most interesting parts of the story.

-RDM. At first I thought it was okay but then the story became interesting with a cool villain and backstory.

-PLD. It started okay but when it expanded on the roles of a Paladin, the characters, especially from 50 up to 70, it became really interesting with memorable characters.

Job stories I thought were just okay:

-SMN. Sadly for my favorite job in the game, I thought the story was just okay while still having some interesting background.

-BLM. At first it was cool learning about the background and watching the lalafell characters but then it introduced the ones from different beastribes and they were just "meh" for me. Also I thought it kinda dragged as it went on and wanted things to end.

-SAM from 60 to 70. I'm only lvl 65 with my SAM but where the 50-60 quests were great, these ones are just okay. While it was about honor and justice in the 50-60, here it's just some internal struggles with bland characters.

Job stories I didn't like at all:

-WAR. I thought it was already boring when you start as a Marauder but then Curious Gorge appeared and boy was it a snoozefest. When the 60 quest started I thought it was finally going to be funny but nope it was just more of : "Curious Gorge does something go slap him."

-SCH. Didn't like the lalafell WAR that was coming with you at all. "Look I'm a Nym knight! Aren't they great?!" Yeah buddy I've heard you the first time. And it just dragged on and on... It also had one infiurating quest where you had to heal a group of NPCs that just kept getting poisoned and hurt. Honestly that wasn't fun at all.

    - 50-60 Samurai was one of my favorites. The final battle was pretty epic. 60-70 wasn't as cool, but it was fine too.

    - 60-70 Paladin was great. I didn't really like 50-60, but I was really happy to see the characters from the Gladiator quests back after that.

    - 30-50 Dragoon was also pretty enjoyable, introducing ma boi Estinien. I'm glad I played those quests before getting to his introduction in the main story.

    - 30-50 Monk was cool too. I liked the twist at the end and the final battle.

    - 1-50 Armorer was also pretty cool. Merlwyb is the best lol

Level 30-50 DRK, no question. Surprisingly for a Job I actually dislike mechanic and thematic wise, the Job quests were amazing, especially the
big Tomato-surprise SE went and pulled in the 50 Job quest (that the Job trainer 'Fray' is really Esteem, your own dark side given form, and who after dropping the real Fray (who has been dead since the beginning) now wants to take over your body for themself!). Seeing my character, or at least, her dark side, actually speak with dialogue was a refreshing change. And ironically, Esteem's personality was exactly how I imagined Enki's dark side to be. I think SE knows me better than I know myself!

A close second goes to the SMN quests, as
they actually delve into the deeper nature of the Ascians (especially the 50-60 quests), revealing that the lower-ranked Ascians are restricted to only using the dead as their hosts, setting up foreshadowing in Stormblood's main scenario where not only Zenos, but Solus came back from the dead as Ascian hosts.

Ninja went downhill for me. I loved the Rogue quests, they were great fun. Ninja to 50 was amazing, then to 60 was ok and 70 was just meh.

Drk was brilliant, that lv50 quest is definitely the best of all the job quests.

This pretty much captures how I felt. Rogue quests were fun, characters were nice. Then ninja quests followed and didn't really do a whole lot for me.

DRK 30-50 was great. The rest of the DRK quests were a lot less interesting for me, until right up at the end. The conclusion of the 60-70 questline was pretty cool.

I also enjoyed DRG quests, but that's probably more due to personal bias. I've loved Dragoons since FF4, so anything relating to them is gonna score points for me.

ACN, SMN 30-50, and SMN 50-60 were also towards the top for me. 60-70 SMN, not so much.

RDM was decent, THM was ok. The rest I didn't really care for so much. Though I still have a lot of DoH and DoL quests to work through.

Overall I find the job quests some of the most horribly written and boring stories in the game that I wouldn't even do if skills were not locked behind them, but if I had to choose...

Rogue was good, and I'm still bitter and mad about having ninja forced on me, I just wanna be a rogue. Nin was ok up to 50 but the whole honorable-to-the-point-of-boring ninja thing just makes no sense to me. You can be honorable and a fun person to be around. Why is it the honorable ppls are always depicted as so tediously dull and lifeless. /endrant
Sch wasn't too horrible and neither was smn, I like the Nym lore

    as for the bads
con/whm is horrible, I just wanna slap that little conjurer girl
rdm was bad too, again, makes me wanna slap a lil girl. Both are so annoying and the miquote rdm isn't too great either
    -but-
brd….worst of the worst imo, Even the archer quests were just bad. I cant even wrap my head around how horrible this story and its characters are. I already decided come next expac imma skip all cs from the get go. I only made it half way thru the SB storyline before I just started skipping it.

For sake of spoilers and lore revelations, I will keep my responses extremely short. In descending order:

My top five favourites (at least for now):
    • Dark Knight - Brilliantly delivered... although I will warn you that the 50 to 60 arch of quests are a bit lackluster... you decide.
    • Dragoon - Mainly because I'm a massive fan of Estinien
    • Thief - Jacke retains a spot on my top 20 NPC list just for his role.
    • Blacksmith and Armourer - Tied for fourth here
    • Thaumaturge (not the BLM quests) - Some elements changed between the 1.0 and 2.0 versions but the "Coco" brothers' story is still well done.

Rogue was awesome. Still don't like being shoehorned into being a full on Ninja though... Like, 30-50 was okay, learning Ninjutsu, fine. But then eh... Also, the animation changes from Rogue > Ninja... I'm not a fan of. Rogues are cool! Ninja's seem less so...

Samurai was cool too. Similar style of vigilante justice, but with plot twists and the like. Though 60-70 felt kind of ehh... (But I guess that's mostly because I still have a hard time grasping the Honor culture from Japan, where people can be dishonored for things they have no control over...)

Miner/Fisher also had nice stories. As did Goldsmith.

As far as stories I didn't/don't like:

Botanist, Fufucha became super whiny and annoying (Though Edgyth was super cute and I just wanted to give her a hug) which really killed the entire story for me...

    Pugilist/Monk was pretty lame too...

Warrior, especially post 50, was awful. "Curious Gorge needs a slap": The Story.

Bard... Ugh... Lets take a cool Archer class focused around mastering the bow and then just exist to sing at people... Heck, it's even mentioned early on that Barding also intertwines with Archery, but no, the entire story is "Go sing stuff" and "Learn a song to sing at stuff" with little to do with Archery after level 30... Hopefully when I get to 60+ it stops sucking but I doubt it at this point...

PLD was good, reminded me of the story of redemption and passing the torch for the unredeemable.
WAR just pissed me off. I hate Curious Gorge more and more. I tolerated him in ARR and that arc was fine, but the rest was horrible with more of the same.
SCH was one of my favorites. I like learning the history of the tonberries, the disease that wiped a civilization, and the wars in the past.
WHM was disappointing until SB which was really touching and sad. It was a good story with a heartbreaking ending.
AST was really good, I like the heretic hunt aspect. I also liked learning about the lore of Geomancy in the SB arc and how it is basically similar in concept to AST.
DRK was awesome for ARR and HW. I loved how ARR arc pretty much encompass the idea that you are just being used by everyone. (Haven't finish the SB arc yet)
ARC was disappointing for HW, though I like the story in ARR of a soldier with PTSD.
SMN was disappointing, I felt it was just a personal dilemma that I was just thrown into. The later arc was better but still not as good as the rest.
BLM was interesting in ARR, I like how they are not afraid of dealing with voidsent but are not evil either.

Haven't finish ROG, MNK, DRG, MCH, RDM, or SAM

Most of the crafters had interesting arcs for the ARR quests, I also liked the BTN arch, but didn't care for the MIN or FSH arcs.
