Finding a purpose of joining a big FC

    Hello guys,

Was thinking of making a thread about brainstorming, so here it is and let me immediately tell mine idea after brainstorming.

Remember the old days (world of warcraft) where 50 people were always online and if one got ganked by the horde, the entire guild would come over to help you? I miss those days, nowadays guilds are not that attractive to me because why should I join a FC.

I know that you can get certain buffs, but wouldnt it be best that buffs would be obtainable for doing something with the entire FC. Think about doing a Mega Raid where the difficulty is on par with high end dungouns (no raids). As rewards, you can get tomestones, large amount of gil, Food, potions, Large amount of exp or something else thats important for people. Plus bigger buffs.

Do you think it would push some people in joining a FC? For me it would.

    Maybe.

Keep in mind that the real world, MMO design, player expectations, etc. were very different in the 1995-2005 period of online gaming. It changed again over the next several years and is resetting again as we discuss this. Many people are busier and those who have the extra time online aren't all on MMOs.

If the buffs are too good it will annoy those who can't join a large and active FC. Too poor and no one will care.

Might be nice if it (it=some new or expanded fc reward system) was seasonal or episodic, so even more casual players could feel like they were contributing if they joined an fc, yet there is no pressure to be on all the time. Especially since Yoshi P has said he doesn't want anyone to feel like they always need to be playing FFXIV, that it's OK to take breaks and come back for new things. He apparently always wants there to be things to do (side adventures, crafting, Golden Saucer, etc.) but not to make them feel compulsory.

Which is nice, because pressure to keep logging in due to FOMO actually makes me want to play games less.

So part of the brainstorming would be offering fun/compelling incentives while also offering variety for those just dropping in from time to time and those who stay through boring lulls between patches.

If there was something cool an FC could work toward/get bonuses for during some of the lulls (and even during peak times) that lasted so long, then switched to something else, it could help with the above issues/concerns and keep an optional but fun incentive going year-round.

*What* seasonal goals would be for FCs, how FC sizes/buffs would factor in, what rewards/sense of accomplishment would be put in play, etc? No idea. Maybe players who stay subbed and log-in 365 or who run FCs could give their two cents?

Thanks for helping make the FFXIV community a fun and welcoming place. If you're not sure you have (and you very likely have), make it a point to be patient or helpful the next time you log in so that you can know you've made a difference.

If you're on the Aether data center, congratulations! I might be your next exciting adventure healer in the Duty Finder. Please look forward to it.

I generally prefer smaller FCs where I actually get to know the people. Given all the match making tools we have in MMOs these days large guilds are not really required.

I think active is most important even though I appreciate that the OP has nostalgia for a different era. Many people now would rather have 10 out of 15 or 20 out of 35 in a small FC than 10 out of 200 on large one at prime time since that makes the large one "feel" dead. And as you mentioned it let's people get to know each other. Large FCs still have a place if they are done right. But "done right" to me doesn't equal a warehouse guild *just* to get numbers. I was in a guild in another MMO which had 20-50 members on most of the time out of a few hundred, yet only a small handful ever wanted to run content when asked in gchat. ~woohoo~

That said, having seasonal/episodic/periodic goals that active FCs could participate in (whatever their size) would be nice, especially if this covered some of the usual pop drop periods.

Having a large FC doesn't mean everyone will be close and cooperate with each other. Adding certain buffs to an FC would make it so that some people would join only to have access to the buffs and give you a cold shoulder when you try to talk to them.

It would be interesting to see why WoW did away with guild talents, at least last I heard. One of the powers you could earn was a mass teleport, such that you could summon a large amount of players to you (as if you placed down a free aetheryte at your feet for your members).

For buffs I remember when certain super npc died in WoW there would be a buff on the whole server (of a specific alliance/horde), could add clearing certain content with majority FC unlocks buffs to use. "Logos bar" except for your FC lol.

Perhaps we don't need the talent part but I would like to see more things to build up and do with the FC system. Have to be careful about making it impossible for small FC to have value competition with large ones (if it takes way too long to be of value to new players then large fc almost always > new/small fc), but beyond that I'm all for more things to do. Like we should get some NPC/cities build relation with us like we do with custom deliveries, unlock special mount, ingredient, minion, etc shops.

Super Scooper FC just ranked up their moogle relations and now have new moogle features. Past rank was a shop permit, next rank was a moogle party you could initiate with specific items, then you were able to prolong the death of your plants as your moogles will come and take care of them (postpones death, doesn't add progress), etc.

I don't know about having mega rewards for large guilds exclusively. That would lock it out for anybody that has a small guild. I could see some general guild improvements though.

Purpose in joining a large guild in this game would be for the chat, and generally people on at all times, or large amounts of them that can do content (craft, trials, raid). In short the community and being a part of it, that is the reward.
