I think that's a really great idea. How about a performance based number of loot instead ?
You could add optionnal objectives to dungeons, that would simply increase the number of chests at the end, to encourage everyone to perform better.
- No death ? "Flawless victory bonus chest"
- Less than x number of damage taken ? "Life preservation bonus chest"
- x amount of total damage dealt ? "Brutal bonus chest"
- Every monster killed ? "Slayer bonus chest"
etc...

You know what ? Now that I think deeper on it, that might actually be a good solution to kill the "full DPS meta". People do instances for loots, no simply for the fun of doing the instance. And, right now, the most efficient way to grab the loot is simply winning the instance, thus, killing the targets as fast as possible. BUT, what if a more efficient way what to play your core role instead of simply killing things.
If the tank taking less than a certain amount of damage (related to its max HP) would yield an additionnal chest, staying in DPS stance might not be worth the cost.
