How would you set item level requirements for Leveling Dungeons?

Since we're not gonna be getting item level requirements for Heavensward and Stormblood leveling dungeons any time soon, might as well make a hypothetical thread just for kicks.

So as the question states, how would you set the minimum item level requirements for leveling dungeons that came out from Heavensward and on?

    Here's mine:

    The Dusk Vigil - 100
    Sohm Al - 110
    The Aery - 115
    The Vault - 120
The Great Gubal Library - 123

    The Sirensong Sea - 245
Shisui of the Violet Tides - 250
    Bardam's Mettle - 255
    Doma Castle - 260
    Castrum Abania - 265

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

The last ARR story dungeon requires 90 for entry, the last HW story dungeon 230, and the last SB dungeon will probably be 360 if it maintains the current pattern.

Therefore HW leveling dungeons should require absolutely no less than 90, SB absolutely no less than 230, and ShB absolutely no less than 360. But really, if we assume these minimums are met, the real problem point is going to be the third dungeon of each set, where things start to hit pretty hard even if you are at the former expansion's max (e.g., running 130 gear in Aery or 270 gear in Bardam's Mettle).

So I would go with something like this:

Let prevStory = the iLv requirement to enter the final story dungeon of the previous expansion
let prevMax = the maximum iLv achievable in the previous expansion

First leveling dungeon: prevStory + 10
Second leveling dungeon: prevStory + 10
    Third leveling dungeon: prevMax
    Fourth Leveling dungeon: prevMax
Fifth leveling dungeon: prevMax + 10

With how much gear the story quests throw at you, and the autogear at the end of the leveling dungeons, these shouldn't pose a significant burden on anyone who's playing even casually.

As long as MSQ rewards a complete gear set prior to any dungeon, I'd just set the iLvl to that gear, or close to it.

I don't think MSQ rewards the full set in relation to leveling dungeons as far I know. To complete the full set, some of the sidequests have to be done to earn them without having to spend a high amount of gil (an example being the "Nhaama's Sweet Embrace" sidequest for am HQ level 66, item level 279 belt.)

That was kinda my point. Full set of gear as MSQ reward, equivalent iLvl requirement. Maybe even go a step further and just make them coffers, rather than risking players choosing wrong.

This seems like a continuation of that i270 Castrum Abania discussion from a couple weeks back.

But you know, I had a thought. Retainers! For standard Ventures, they require a light level for each level of Venture.
Currently, my Dragoon Retainer is only Lv.64, so I can't see the full scope of hunting ventures for up until 70. But I can see the 51-60 range.

At Lv.50, I had geared it with i130 Augmented Ironworks. (Leftovers from my own leveling).
Lv.51 - The Dusk Vigil (110 venture. Okay).
    Lv.53 - Sohm Al (120 venture. Okay).
Lv.55 - The Aery (126 venture. Okay, but getting hairy).

At this stage, upgrading to Lv.56, HQ Crafted gear would sustain Leveling Dungeon progress. iLvl 139.

Lv.57 - The Vault (132 venture. Not okay).
Lv.59 - The Great Gubal Library (138 venture. Not okay).

I imagine when my Retainer hits Lv.70, I would be able to see a similar upgrade path for the Stormblood domain.

Which would mean the following. (Actually, found the rest of the retainer venture requirements from gamerscape)
Assuming a starting i270 Augmented Shire set.
Lv.61 - The Sirensong Sea (iLvl 245 venture)
Lv.63 - Shisui of the Violet Tides (iLvl 260 venture)
    Lv.65 - Bardam's Mettle (iLvl 266 venture)
    Lv.67 - Doma Castle (iLvl 272 venture)
    Lv.69 - Castrum Abania (iLvl 280 venture)

At Lv.66, you can upgrade to HQ, Crafted iLvl 279 gear, which still wouldn't quite make the 280 cut for Castrum Abania. A couple pieces of gear from Doma Castle and Lv.68 HQ, Crafted gear would be necessary to bump you up to 280.
For the most part, I would say no gear upgrades are necessary for the 1st 5 levels of a new expansion (assuming capped gear from previous expansion). But you'll need to seriously look at doing a full replacement of gear after that.

Does this seem agreeable? To match up iLvl with Retainer requirements at level?

That is mostly the better idea but it should not be the overall ilvl that counts, it should be the ilvl of each gear piece that counts. That would mean if you want to enter The Sirensong Sea for example every item that you have equipped is at least ilvl 250.

Whatever ilvl is available at a vendor for when the dungeon starts. There is zero reason to have less than that.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
