    DoH 50+ progresssion?

So, never mind my other post. I'm dumb, sorry.

At level 50, I have a full HQ artisan's set, giving me 304 craftsmanship.
50-51 crafts aren't too bad, 52 is painful, and 53 is almost impossible.

The next set of gear (the holy set) I can craft for myself is at 53. Recommended Craftsmanship for 53 crafts are 519, so where does this other 200+ craftsmanship come from?

Given that I couldn't even make the 50 artisan set I'm wearing myself (its from the master books I think), how is progression supposed to go at 50+? It really seems like I'm missing something here.

The way it once was supposed to go is that you go through a number of increasingly difficult craftings to be able to barter for improved level 50 main-hand and off-hand tools.
Nobody does that today however, because by the time you can get those tools they are obsolete.

Level up through the usual means - levequests, GC turn-ins, Moogle quests (when you have unlocked them). Get better gear from class quest rewards, Marketboard, leve-quest rewards, self-crafted, NPC vendors.

Crafting NQ gear isn't too difficult. HQ gear is very hard if you are underlevel and/or undergeared. You should be able to get better tools at level 52.

    Oh, and don't forget food.

51-53 is a bit of a difficult gap and you'll need mostly/all HQ materials to make things HQ. 53 crafts are indeed possible, the in-game recommended requirements are a bit wonky and can be ignored if you have decent gear. Make sure your tools are decent (artisan or lv52 hq) and you have grade 4 materia in everything (100% retrieve rate so no reason not to) and you'll be fine.

At 54 you get access to Name of Fire/Earth/ect, which is a very powerful synth ability at those levels. Crafting at a higher level than required also makes synthing much easier, so it's always an option to level to 54 before making your next set.

Thanks for the explanation. I managed to make myself lvl 52+ HQ main hand and off hand for BSM. Its still more difficult HQing than pre-50 was, but the new tools has helped quite a bit. I'll have to quit slacking and get some materia and food.

Nobody seems to have mentioned (possibly because this changed after anyone here found it useful) but levequests can reward HQ gear as well. Quite honestly, leveling in my 50s, I stopped crafting most gear, since I could just do an easy leve and upgrade.

50-52 - Spam 35/40 Durability items such s Rainbow Cotton Yarn, Mythrite Nugget, Cedar Lumber.
52-53 - Complete your crafting quests until Lv 50, if already done; you can submit NQ levequests.
53 - Upgrade from whatever gear directly to HQ Holy-Rainbow gear (i80), also craft yourself the tools, and accessories HQ, this should be relatively simple if you start with BSM, and some HQ mats for the initial BSM tools.
53-56 - Submit HQ levequests from Lv 52-54 range, HQ'n these should be relatively simple, you can use a simulator to figure a rotation.
56-60 - Begin doing Rowena's Splendors Exchange, you will have easy items such as Titanium Nuggets, Dark Chestnut Lumber, Star Ruby, and Ramie Cloth. Don't bother wasting leves for this level range, it's easy enough, and you can then preserve these leves for Stormblood levelling.

One of the keys to keep in mind going forward is that your level plays a bigger role then it previously did. A level 40 trying a 44 recipe wouldnt have a ton of trouble. A level 50 trying a 54 recipe is begging for pain. So where possible try to do recipes your level or lower to keep the difficulty to a manageable level. As for food and materia, there are some easy sources. If you can access Kugane(and having a level 70 DRK i would assume you can) the food merchant in town sells one of the better crafting foods around(tempura rolls in normal quality). A touch expensive to use for all your crafting while leveling(or not, depending on your bankroll), but its a nice boost when you use it. Once you get a crafter to 60 unlock the custom deliveries feature(first NPC is in idyllshire) and that will work as a good source of materia(via scrips).
