Was that Yamata-no-Orochi fighting alongsode Seiryu? I'm not sure, granted it was hard to tell how many snake heads were on that thing. It'd be a neat mythological reference if it is, though.

"The Light will expunge all life. Only you can forestall the Calamity. Eon become instant. Throw wide the gates!"
More ominousness surrounding a Flood of Light. Hooray.
"My goal is this: to return the world to the way it once was. The way it was always meant to be. In doing so, mankind will be made whole once more. No longer will we suffer from the dissension born of our differences."
Human Instrumentality Project intensifies. Mortals confirmed to be tiny fragments of Zodiark?
"Win or lose, the path you walk leads only to oblivion."
Isn't a Catch-22 grand?
"You will be the capstone of this world, I anchoring shard, and together we will give the lie to this star's fraudulent existence!"
This sounds like Solus, but context is super important. Who he's speaking to needs to be known before the exact significance of it can be made out (beyond calling Hydaelyn's existence fraudulent).
Ahem.
A lot of very interesting stuff going on.
Big battle, obviously.
Varis meeting with some Alliance leaders to explain some things, perhaps try and reach some manner of treaty. Human Instrumentality Project though, and I seriously doubt they'd agree to that. (Well, we don't know that's their aim, but that's increasingly what it sounds like.) Curious to know whether this is before or after the battle in the Ghimlyt Dark.
Return of Zenos-Elidibus and "real" Zenos! Interesting!
Alphinaud hanging withGaiusShadowhunter still? Image of Alisae speaking with Maxima leaves me intrigued.
Absolute Virtue! I didn't even play XI and even I know that infamous thing! Probably a boss in Hydatos, and I gave up on Eureka long ago.
Lots of other little details and neat things, like the sniper mecha and the royal bodyguards stepping onto the battlefield (it seems).
Get hype!

The trailer had a lot of interesting things to so and quite a few possibilities left up to interpretation. Rather than making things clearer it just raised even more questions. I suppose the trailer did a good job of not giving way too much so they could be properly answered in game.
I'm still kind of wondering why a threat of a calamity of light would be occurring. Have our successes been enough to tip that scale? It seems weird to me since it's been suggested throughout the game's story that Hydaelyn had failed nearly every time to stop the tide of darkness yet it's a threat of light that seems to be the main thing focused on now. We know the Voice speaks of the path leading of a calamity, the question on why this is still lingers a bit on my mind as I think about it. It's probably because prior to 4.4 there wasn't really an indication that the balance was off in that way. There is definitely something more going on... and I can't even begin to guess what it is right now. It's going to be a long way to the 8th and an even longer waited if it is not answered in Part 1 lol
I'm leaning towards Hydaelyn's attempt at rebalancing the first shard having gone horribly wrong somehow and that it's now the cause for the Source's balance being skewed towards the light, though it wouldn't surprise me if someone or something else over there was responsible for what's going on.
We know a shard is somehow involved in this mess from the stinger in the trailer, and I can't think of what other shard they'd be referring to, though if it's also the star the voice is referring to, I can't imagine they intend any kind of positive outcome for it ("Give the lie to this star's fraudulent existence" sounds like the words of someone who wants it gone).
Hydaelyn shows herself as wanting balance, but Elidibus acts as if that is not what she wants. Either she is actually leading us to not having a balance with Dark and Light or we as her Champion without her guidance for so long just kept fighting for her aimlessly to a point things will get screwed up.
I wonder how Gaius is going to play into all of this? That he survived the events of ARR is mysterious enough, though he also now apparently has the power to track down and slay Ascians. That in itself implies that someone or something is pulling his strings, though despite his noble intentions it may backfire since simply defeating all the Ascians risks bringing about disaster. That could be where the whole Warrior of Darkness angle comes into play, though perhaps the long term goal will be to become the Warrior of Balance.
I'd have preferred Arbert to stick around and play the part of the Warrior of Darkness but I suppose that can't be helped now.
It does raise a few interesting questions about the impact of this calamity. Is it simply what the Warrior of Light is doing or are they're boarder factors that have led to this conclusion?I wonder how Gaius is going to play into all of this? When the idea of us becoming the Warrior of darkness that was kind of the first thing that kind of came to mind to me giving Albert original plea to us to 'Forge a different path' and that 'Light and Darkness doesn't matter, it's what you do with it' speech. I was kind of thought this different path might be that we have the master the power of both Light and Darkness in order to actually resolve the problem. I still think this is a possibility because if we are being threaten by a Calamity of Light and yet we've been told that we are engaging in Garleans during Fanfest, would defeating Elibius and Solus make these matters worse? I’d bet there is definitely more to all of this then what our initial impressions from Fanfest and the 4.5 trailer suggest.

The leaders and Varis are likely in the Garlean Consulate in Kugane so I have a feeling Varis is fed up with how his country is going down the drain because of who is actually running his country, and he spills some secrets to the Eorzean Alliance in exchange for help to oust the puppetmaster (PUP confirmed in a future xpac!! lol) The Consulate is likely the safest place for a meeting like that. I know someone on reddit waaaay back during 4.0/4.1 found that the stairs leading up to the Garlean Consulate were padded for use - if you go to where it is and swing your camera around, your camera bumos up against and moves up onto the stairs as opposed to, say, the Thavnair Consulate's stairway where your camera moves through the stairs (no padding.)So, there's a few questions that can be raised around the Varis / Alliance leaders in a Garlean tent scene. The seats bear the Garlean flag embossed in the backs and ivory standards by the entrance.
Is it the prelude to the battle? Invitation extended? These are my terms of your surrender, reject them and we will crush you sort of thing?
Have the alliance faught the Empire to a standstill?
I offer no side here, but these are the things I thought about during that sequence.

Just had a thought. What if the Warrior of Light becoming the Warrior of Darkness is the way Hydaelyn is going to balance out light and dark after the Ascians are killed off?
Killing of the Ascians is all but necessary at this point in order to stop them from further messing with history, the shards, the source and ending life as we know it. But that creates an imbalance. So what if the balance is kept by having someone else take the place of the Ascians after the fact? At least, so far as Balance is concerned?
