So, Seiryu is a snake...

I was both interested, and slightly disappointed to learn that Seiryu is going to be a snake Auspice. Admittedly, I base this assumption on a single image from the Requiem for Heroes patch page, but it seems likely to be the case.

The reason I find it somewhat disappointing, is I was kind of looking forward to seeing how an immortal creature like a dragon, who can already live for centuries, could wind up becoming an Auspice. Not to mention the fact that having one of the Four Lords be a snake is kind of a cheat in itself; while Genbu occasionally has serpentine aspects (he's often depicted as a turtle with a serpent for a tail, or entwined with a serpent), as far as I know Seiryu has always unquestionably been a dragon.

I won't deny, though, that the character model for Seiryu looks pretty cool!

"Seiryu" (青竜) also literally means "Blue Dragon," which any Japanese player would know immediately. There may be some lore reason for why a snake ended up named "dragon" (maybe he's a Middy fanboy?), but now that you mention it, it is odd for them to do a boss series modeled after the Four Symbols if they knew going in that they couldn't commit to a dragon for other lore reasons.

The press site has a full render of Seiryu, an he looks like a lot more like a dragon when you can see the rest of the body.

Dragons already live for thousands (up to tens of thousands for Great Wyrms) of years and none of them are auspices. They're trying to separate Seiryu from Dravanians since literally all dragons are descendants of Midgardsrmr.

It's probably supposed to be an eastern type dragon, rather than a western one.

Shinryu is an eastern/chinese style dragon. Long serpentine tail with ARMS+LEGS, bearded.




Seiryu in this looks more like a snake than a dragon, notice the diamond shaped head and forked tongue, and lack of limbs?

I'd say the picture isn't enough to go by, as he surely has another form, but we'll see.

Yes, but so far in all of the fights they have kept some part of what they really look like when not in their partial humanoid form. That and in a lot of stories snakes are not to be trusted. I can only think of one story where a snake wasn't evil and it's a Pacific Northwest Native tribe story that partly explains why the sun is in the sky and how some animals came to look the way they do. In that story the snake which has fur tries to carry the hot glowing ball to wherever it needed to go inside it's coils but the ball was too hot and it burned off all the fur. For me there's going to be some disconnect as historically you can't trust a snake and yet we're going to have to because the story so far tells us this has to be true.
