Yeah it could work but i doubt that we will get something like this, ever.It sounds like Haruka is leaning toward having a dummy weapon in the offhand...This avoids several problems that would need to be dealt with if weapons were separate:
- You won't have split loot (like when two PLDs in a party have to fight over a sword and shield).
- You won't have to buy two tomestone weapons if you want to upgrade one (like PLD has to buy both the sword and the shield and upgrade them simultaneously with a single token)
- Extra dev time doesn't need to be spent in the future designing extra weapons.
- Extra space doesn't need to be spent on having two separate weapons where each other job only has one.
- Weapon stats won't need to be balanced to account for splitting across two separate weapons.
Basically,
Main hand: has all the stats
Off hand: has 0 stats, serves only to be glamoured. A single item usable at all levels.
if (off hand not equipped)
....draw main hand weapon in both hands
else
....draw main hand weapon in main hand
....draw off hand glamour in off hand
This would actually be an ingenious implementation and much less complicated than anything else that has been discussed so far.
And the weapon to be glamoured would be a quest reward from the quest that unlock Rogue
This sounds like an interesting idea, but I just want to make sure I'm clear on what the idea is.
You have the one NIN dagger and that's your weapon. The main one is the damage one, the one in the main hand, and the off hand is for show only. You can equip any weapon you already have in that other hand to change the dagger in your left hand exclusively. If you wanted to change the daggers in both hands you'd need to glamour both onto each hand? I'd think that someone would want to keep a weapon they'd want to glamour in their main hand at some point, so maybe it should be that sort of thing? And if they want both weapons the same they either glamour to both hands or glamour nothing? Did I get it right?
For Blood and Glamour
This isn't really a problem for PLD though as the combined costs for any sword/shield combo is the same as a weapon for amy other job.It sounds like Haruka is leaning toward having a dummy weapon in the offhand...This avoids several problems that would need to be dealt with if weapons were separate:

You just have it taking up 2 inventory slots instead of 1.
Unless you're crafting primal shinies, in which case it costs you twice as many EX drops.
Error 3102 Club, Order of the 52nd Hour
It can be simpler even than that. You could literally just put another mainhand weapon in the off hand slot.
It wouldn't need any special items created - just using the ones we already have, and would be fully compatible with glamours so you could do any combination of identical or non-identical weapons. Any stats on the weapon in the off hand slot are simply ignored for the purpose of calculating character stats.
its not related to the topic but i have a friend who plays tera online, he plays as a ninja in the game and OMG it has some damn cool skills! i think FFXIV Devs need to learn something from tera online devs.![]()
I don't even NIN anymore (I think it's clunky in SB), but sign me up. Yes for 1 different weapon in each hand!
Well, we don't need any sexualized loli's in this game
Other than that, there are some neat skills for sure. I wish they'd make the Ninjustu system a little bit better... Such as making Mudra more responsive so that it feels better to use (I.e. So that it's not better to use Fuma Shuriken over Raiton because less clipping due to lag)
As well as allowing weapon skills to be used without breaking Mudra combos...
Could also be neat to have the CD differ depending on how many Mudra were used... With the power of Hyoton and Doton increased accordingly... So you can be more flexible with which Ninjutsu you use (Especially if Huton was divorced from it, so you didn't have to spend a large number of your Ninjutsu casts on it pre-54)
Outside of that, I think NIN is kind of cool, with some of Tera's abilities not really being functional due to the way that the combat system differs between the 2 games (I.e. Terra can use more CC effects that move characters)
Anyway... Back on to the topic of the thread:
Being able to mix and match dagger glamours would be cool. There are several ways to implement it too. Such as a vestigial off-hand item akin to the "Emperor's New" items that are "Invisible" clothes for glamour with no stats, only with the opposite effect of being a thing you equip and then glamour to change your Off-Hand weapon. It could easily come from a side-quest like the Glamour function for Egi's comes from a SMN side quest.
They could just let you equip a second dagger in your off-hand and ignore its stats (Though, this could cause some confusion with people thinking it might actually be relevant)
Or they could just adapt Glamour Plates specifically to allow for an off-hand glamour to be set up.
Either way, it would be a cool little thing. For currently the only class that dual wields but only uses a single weapon item (PLD/CNJ/THM can all use 1H + Shield but that is 2 separate items, even PLD's Relics require them to build 2 separate relics, at lower individual cost)
Oh, as an aside, I also think it would be SUPER neat if we could have the option to ditch the weeby Ninja animations and go back to using the cool Rogue ones. I'm a knife in the dark, taking out bad guys and saving good guys. I'm not some cat girl who watched far too much Naruto >.>
