Decorating FC houses for in game events

Christmas, at least, has plenty of outdoor furnishings (especially if you include the technically-not-Starlight-themed Oriental Snowcave). Halloween really suffers though. Where are my tombstones? Where are the outdoor jack-o-lanterns?

Unfortunately, I think I know the reason SE stopped adding outdoor furnishings as event rewards. While everyone can at least get apartments that they can decorate with indoor furnishings, actual housing plots with yards are still not available for all. Every time they have an event with outdoor furnishing rewards, people who don't have houses get mad at the "wasted" event prizes.

I do have a protip for seasonal yard decorators though: Use your Expansion of Duties Permits to put retainers with festive outfits in your yard. For Halloween, my FC had a witch brewing a potion at her cauldron, and ghosts hiding behind corners to spook people. For Christmas, we have Santa watching over the presents under the tree, and his faithful reindeer in the stables.

A few years back they made jack-o-lantern lamp posts that light up at night, but I think that's been it, and now your best option to getting them is through Mogstation since they're going to be insanely priced on the marketboard if they're for sale on your server at all.

Realistically I think they indoor/outdoor restriction really could be lifted for some items and let them be placed in either area. The new holiday trees this event, for example, have little reason not to be able to be placed outdoors considering there already exists a model for an outdoor tree. Similarly for Halloween, the tower of jack-o-lanterns was made indoor only, but could be made able to be placed outdoors as well.

I understand wanting to put more indoor decorations since more players can use them in apartments or FC private rooms, but it can't hurt to make at least some of the decorative items able to be placed both in a room and in a yard.

Those are nice, but they're so tiny! You can't decorate a whole yard with just those.

This is what I really want. When I mentioned Jack-o-Lanterns, I was thinking of the Pumpkin Towers, which already do exist as an outdoor furnishing, just one that players don't have access to.

Just wondering if many people do this. We try to keep the house decorations matching any in game events for a bit of fun and community.

However, I feel there is a real lack of outdoor themed items. Some of the decorations around the housing areas for Halloween and Christmas are just so fun (fairy lights, glowing pumpkins) it would be really nice to give the FC houses a bit more options for outside as well.

I wish I was one of these players. Sadly I just can't get into it. In a bit of contrast though, the outside is usually where I do some seasonal decorating. I think the reason for this is because of the very limited amount of furnishings that can be placed opposed to the inside of a residence. The inside of my home is more like an elaborate painting, and making changes is akin to using a fantasia on my character. I know I can 'add' seasonal decorations, and just take them down later but again, I just can't get into it. The outside of my home though is very utilitarian and not as much thought has gone into the décor. I'm constantly renovating the outside as it is.

I suppose there could be more seasonal items available, and I wish there was for the players who do get into the holidays. However, some items can still be used for these themes even though they are not specifically designed for that purpose. As an example, autumn trees and leaf piles combined with the death's fingers gives a very eerie/fall/Halloween feel to the outside of a residence. Play around with your imagination and see what cool things you can come up with!

I don't think they can 'lift restrictions' as such - items seem to be in very rigid categories. It is either an indoor item or an outdoor item but cannot be programmed to be both simultaneously.

Though of course they could make another item that has the same model, but is classified as an outdoor item.

Definitely. More than a dozen seasonal items and others for decorations, and a Starlight feast. Also repurchased the wallpaper at crazy expense because it was lost back when wallpaper could not be removed. Outside, we have a cold knight’s cookfire which is really easy to customize for any holiday. Right now it is topped with a Starlight sentinel. Works well with the flame of passion and egg trees also.

Also for Starlight celebration we have a snowman and twinkleboxes outside, holiday/winter dressed retainers, and a snow cave replacing the chocobo stable. And as many snow drifts as we own - I wish those were still available or there were larger and more varied yard terrain variations. Being able to throw snowballs from your lawn is great fun.

Regarding using your imagination I agree completely. Terrified my FC with a giant stuffed Gagana for thanksgiving.
