He's not excusing his actions, he's asking for a change in the severity of the ban. That's all. He even admins that he's getting better and putting in the effort. So he does acknowledge his faults, he's asking for some Empathy.

There’s a difference between asking for empathy and demanding a change because one doesn’t want to change themselves. Impulsive behavior can be controlled—it just seems like the OP isn’t opting to find a method to control it.
