I almost want to say the latter because they keep on stating that they can't control themselves and they're afraid that if they say something like a your momma joke someone is going to report them or take it out of context and report them. While having fully admitting that they have an alt for a just in case their main gets baned. They also don't come off as very remorseful and seem to only to care about losing the time and work they've put into their main.

That's the feeling I'm getting too. Browsing through the posts I haven't seen really any sign of wanting to change themselves, just the rules to excuse them.
