    That isn't much good.
I mean, while leveling doh/dol I expect to don't reach the point of a dead path ahead. Having to refer to external sites for leveling doh/dol is nonsense.

Fisher job suffers this a lot. Any dow/dom job quest you do every 5 levels can be done in matter of minutes, but you soon find fisher quests that are jokes asking you the near-impossible (for the level they are intended) and you will soon learn you need pretty much ignore all of them until you overlevel them tenfold before you can finally do them with the ease you were expecting on first place.

Not to mention, when you need catch a given fish, your only source is the internet, while all other jobs have a log that says where to go.
Unless you find it "fun" trying each and every bait on each end every fishing point and spend hours for each point and bait to be sure you had caught all possible fishes on location in order to properly fill your log. Even if you had previously caught the fish you need, you cannot text search for it but manually search each on every single location log and look for the fish in each fishing point of that log.

Yes, the joy of explore, but on fisher they pushed it too much "korean" style IMHO.

You should NEVER need a 338 page document to be able to understand crafting! PERIOD!!!!! So I would disagree with you, FFXIV does not have the best crafting.
You really don't have to read a 338 page document to craft. Think of it more like a long journey, where you gradually work your way to becoming an artisan, constantly learning and improving your technique. For those of us who love crafting, the depth and complexity adds to the experience and satisfaction when you reach the top. For those who don't like that depth, you can power to lv70 with leve's and namazu quests, slap on a basic lv70 white hq set and make the bulk majority of items and furniture in the game with basic craft knowledge.

There's something for everyone. It's accessible to those who just want to make basic items, but has depth for those who want to master it. A mistake a lot of players make is being casual crafters, yet wanting access to the absolute endgame crafted items. It just shouldn't work that way, similar to how Normal raiders shouldn't be able to easily clear Ultimate.

That's also another "deal maker" for me in that FF hasn't caved in yet on making absolutely everything simple and effort free, like WoW has. I hate games that treat you like you aren't intelligent enough to handle complexity and try to spoonfeed and hand everything in the game to you. FF is far from perfect on that, but they hold strong on certain gameplay elements, unlike WoW which has thrown it aside completely.

The story and the amazing soundtrack keep me going, that and the friends I've made and my ongoing quest to try to get through Savage content lol.

Letting me be gay (even if it's just by letting me marry a player character of the same gender).

Job system is brilliant system for an MMO. Not sure I want to play any MMO that doesn't have it.

    FF environments (aesthetic/graphics) and music.

Reiterateable content of great depth and breadth, appropriately paced and prior to streamlining, that allows me to feel immersed in my character. As much as I enjoy raiding, be it here or in WoW or elsewhere, a truly great pre-endgame experience often has me more excited, and more lastingly so, than even raiding.

For me, it's the fact that gathering is not trivialized. Guild Wars 2 and Elder Scrolls Online, while great in many aspects, mock gatherers. Gathering is COMPLETELY secondary. While in FF14, gathering is a class of its own, separate from everything else...
    • Level/item level sync. It's nice to be able to play my role in instances without being supplanted by some raid-geared jackass who has no business being in there to begin with, forcing me to drop group out of frustration, a la World of Warcraft. In this game, the playing field is much more level (end-game item level sync is too generous though).

    • Being able to level all classes on one character. This is a huge quality-of-life feature with me, much less of a logistical nightmare than World of Warcraft, where I had to character hop like crazy just to, say, create and fully upgrade one stinking item. Here, while you still have to "hop", it's much more easier to do.

    • Crafting/gathering. Good god, what a feature! A (fairly complicated) game with a game. I can't recall a single other game I've played where they had this. Usually you just click an anvil/forge/menu/etc, select how many you want to make, then AFK until it's all done. Here in this game, you actually craft stuff.

    FFXIV's dealmakers for me are:

Nice graphics/robust customization - Maybe it seems shallow, but I enjoy a game much more when I like the way my character looks, and have a plethora of options for customization.

"Traditional" tab target combat - I'm old and I don't enjoy frantic "action-combat" style games. I'm not interested being a marksman, or else I'd play shooters (which I don't).

All classes on one character - I really like that if I want to have a different class experience, its as simple as swapping my weapon.

Player housing - While FFXIV's player housing system has some serious problems, the things it does right, are done really well. I love my little house in Mist.

Crafting/Gathering - In their own way those gathering and crafting classes are almost like combat classes. I've never played any game with its like and I really appreciate it.

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?
