    FFXIV's dealmakers for me are:

Nice graphics/robust customization - Maybe it seems shallow, but I enjoy a game much more when I like the way my character looks, and have a plethora of options for customization.

"Traditional" tab target combat - I'm old and I don't enjoy frantic "action-combat" style games. I'm not interested being a marksman, or else I'd play shooters (which I don't).

All classes on one character - I really like that if I want to have a different class experience, its as simple as swapping my weapon.

Player housing - While FFXIV's player housing system has some serious problems, the things it does right, are done really well. I love my little house in Mist.

Crafting/Gathering - In their own way those gathering and crafting classes are almost like combat classes. I've never played any game with its like and I really appreciate it.

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

I came thanks to Distant Worlds (where they played Torn From the Heavens) and stayed because of the story, which would make me come back for sure if I ever took a break from the game.
The dealmaker for me, though, is my awesome in-game hubby.

The other couple that my husband and I play with. We have all stuck with ffxiv since 1.0, and have made a fairly boring game fun.

Happily, though, (and a little bittersweet) our first child is due in 3 weeks, so my time in Eorzea is quickly approaching an end.

    1. Everything on one Character is a very big dealmaker for me.

    2. Many different "easy/casual" contents including some really hard time sinks.

    3. Being able to collect many things (pets, mounts, orchestrion).

    4. Nice graphics and the ff style.

    5. And i like the (short) downtime between patches to play something else from time to time.

    1) Things that become attainable over time. I hate the notion of "if you didn't get this when it was relevant, you're never getting it." I like that we can go back and farm for old glamours in prior Savage modes or minions or whatever, and that past seasonal rewards are available a year later if you missed the original event.

    2) The aesthetic of the game's more animal-looking races. In most games they look more like beasts, whereas in FFXIV they look more humanoid but still retain some of their wildness. I really like how customizable they are, although I wish we had more options for this.

    3) Crafting and gathering being like entire classes of their own with their own rotations. Granted, they're not as hard as actual jobs but it's not just push-button-make-thing.

"We want bunny suits for guys!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Ishgard housing!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Viera!" -- OK! ✅
    "We want Cloud's motorcycle!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Blue Mage!"-- OK! ✅
"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.

Burn out is what always breaks it for me.
Pretty much this. However, I also like the aesthetics of this game and the character creation options which allows me to develop a character design that I really liked.

Other MMORPG games did not have that aesthetic factor in it as compared to FFXIV imo. In addition to the above:

    - Gameplay is relatively easy to understand
    - Community is generally nice and helpful
    - I have a house even though it's a small one and I get to use it to express creativity for decoration.
    - Same character gets exposed to all different jobs without having to create a new character.
    - Lore & story are very much on the interesting side. Loved SB for the incorporation of Asian/Japanese culture into the game.
    - Brought back references from previous FFs that I used to love. (FFX fan here and was glad to see Yojimbo and Ixion here).
    - Some interesting cross game collaborations
    - Wide glamour choices, though some are repeated designs and class locked but overall there are some great gear designs in here.

I think FFXIV really goes all out with the references to previous FFs (most FFs do it, but FFXIV is a type of game that can afford to have a ton of them). I really love it, specially as a fan of FFVI. Garlemald is basically the Gestahlian Empire at this point (aesthetically), but with the Judges from the Archadian Empire of FFXII.

Most of it it's pure fan service, but it's perfectly integrated into the FFXIV lore. Someone has said in the past that FFXIV is like a Final Fantasy theme park and I agree.

I wouldn't run most content unless it had triad cards in it until after I had the triad cards.

What I mean is that I prioritize content that has triad cards over those that do not.

[QUOTE=galbsadi;4838882]So I play several MMOs....WoW, SWTOR, FFXIV, ESO, used to play TERA, have dabbled in Neverwinter, LOTRO, and others.

Big things I like in MMOs that make them extra great:
    - Story, story, story

Things that aren't 'dealmakers' but I like:
    - Crafting systems - FFXIV is king here

Okay, I too have played many MMO's:
UO - LOTOR - GW2 - SWTOR - ESO not a big fan, I do like that there is no subscription. I will say that I didn't play it enough to give it a decent shot? Shouldn't a game pull you in from the begging?

I agree with most of what you have to say but the two issues listed above!

SWTOR - The individual Story lines for each individual class is the best I've ever seen. The Imperil Agent story line is epic! There are 8 classes and each class has its very own very unique individual story line. I also like that each of my 8 charters have voices and options to respond. It’s very emissive, you really get sucked into the story. Also holding a lightsaber is pretty cool, and using the force. To me that is what made that game special, the individual stories, every MMO quests are practically the same, go talk to this guy go kill/gather this or that. Because the 8 classes individual story lines were SO unique it made replayability so much better. I felt like it was a whole new game each time I play thought because each individual class story was so unique and well done.

The worst part about SWTOR is that it looked dated on release, it’s if they used a late 90’s gaming engine. Such a shame, if SWTOR looked as good as FFXIV? Who knows.

For FFXIV I don't feel connected to the story line at all, even if you click as fast as you can they just talk to dam much. You have this "Hero of Light" that just *nods* in epic scenes, it just kill's it for me. Going from SWTOR to this is…., at least give me a White bubble with what my champion would say.. There's TO much lore I don't even know why I'm in stormblood, and honestly, I don't care.

If you want easy crafting and gathering go to SWTOR they have dozens of companions and you can send each one of them out on missions to do the gathering for you and they do the crafting for you.

GW2 it's just $$ get money unlock recip and build, grind grind grind $$$, $$$, $$$ real or in-game currency. *shrugs*

But if you think FFXIV crafting is "good" then you my friend are twisted and love torture! I agree that crafting should be more difficult then gathering or several aspects of an MMO or it wouldn't be worth it.. but this my friend is nuts.. it's just not ok!

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...sCBa1IwVQ/edit

You should NEVER need a 338 page document to be able to understand crafting! PERIOD!!!!! So I would disagree with you, FFXIV does not have the best crafting.
