    Just recently, FPS sudden drop

    Hi Technical Support,

I need help here. Lately, since 2 weeks ago, my FPS in game drops quite frequently from 60 to around 20-30 fps for 1 second, then back to 60 fps again.

It happens everywhere, but if i go to instance raid, it happens more often.
If i play full screen instead of borderless window, the fps drop doesn't occur as often.

GPU: NVIDIA 1080 TI (this is more than enough to play this game)
Processor: more than enough to play this game

I have recently (around 2 weeks ago) updated my NVIDIA driver.
I tried to roll back, but fps drop still occur.

    Please help.

Did you update to the 417.22 driver? There is known issue where several cards experience significant FPS loss on many games as a result of Nvidia not testing the driver on various devices. The recommendation is to roll back to the hot fix of the previous version and use that until nVidia can fix things.

Update, so if I use Direct x 9 instead of 11, the issue appear very very rare. Why?

Good evening and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

I apologize for the delay in my response. The reason why you may experience DirectX 11 crashing is because it may interact differently with the drivers. In a previous response, you mentioned you did a roll back of the driver update, when you did this did you do a clean install?

    Hope to see you online!

yes i just do a clean install via the installer it self. I pick manual installation and opt for clean install. Direct 9 is fine for now. Direct 11x has fps drop issue.

Do you use discord? Last few days I have had this issue and closing discord fixed it. I am not sure what the conflict is, and I have discord overlay disabled.

I was able to keep discord open by disabling hardware rendering in Settings->Appearance.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

You may want to try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. Avoid opening any other unnecessary programs while running the game.

Also try setting the compatibility mode to Windows 7. Right click on the ffxivboot.exe file and select ‘Properties.’ Then select the ‘Compatibility’ tab and choose Windows 7.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Hello, i have done all those above and sometimes fps still drops to 20 and back to 60.

I also tried to used direct 9 with compatibility windows 7 or 8 in ffxivboot.exe

1 month ago this never happen. Very weird.

Could you provide a system report?

    Hope to see you online!
