Greetings and salutations, adventurers.
I accidentally ran the event the first time with my music still off. Took me a few moments to realize, "Oh, this probably seems a bit better with sound."
So I eventually got to do this last night after work, and to my surprise I actually had fun with the minigame! The best score I could manage was a 95000, but I still think that's pretty respectable lol. I farmed it a ton along with a guildmate so we could make our FC house nice and festive, and got some of the goodies for my own house as well.
I think part of the initial difficulty is overcome just as you "learn the song" and recognise where the dings are supposed to fit into the music.
Also the correct timing for 'critical hits' seems a little bit later than I expect it to be.
And for people who can't pass it at all - is there any chance you're quitting as soon as the music goes bad, thinking it means you've failed? It'll keep going and you can recover if you hit enough good notes.
You can also just tap any random key on your keyboard, if it helps you. If you use your mouse, you don't need to move over the mouse to the symbol. Just need to klick left or right mouse button.

It took some practice for sure, but the same can be said for many things in the game. After I got the general feel for the song it became easier, though I did mess up a note or 2 most of the time. Either way I never failed once. Imo, people would have to try really hard to fail. Server lag probably makes it hell though.I think part of the initial difficulty is overcome just as you "learn the song" and recognise where the dings are supposed to fit into the music.

The easy one has 40 "events" and the hard one 55 events to react to. Nine misses on either (22% on the easy, 16% on the hard) is a complete failure. It took some practice for sure, but the same can be said for many things in the game. Latency/FPS issues definitely make it hell. Personally I'm still finding it easier to do the harder one. For some reason I keep getting misses on the orange diamonds on easier one even though I'm continually mashing keys.
I don't have anything against the mini-game itself. Placing it as a roadblock in a seasonal event quest chain that's supposedly about the season of making others feel good was a poor decision on SE's part. My friend from the other night finally got a completion so she could complete the quest chain but she's lost all interest in the Starlight Celebration and getting the housing items she had been looking forward to. So much for feeling good this holiday season.
