    [Suggestion] Job Roulette

With multiple jobs at 70, the thought occurred to me of having a new roulette - one where you don't know going in what job you will be playing. The game would automagically switch you to one of your qualified jobs (so level 70 if that's how it's set, or level 60 or whatever) as you load in. 'Oh, looks like I'm dragoon for this one - ok, here we go!'

Everyone I've mentioned this to in my LS thought it sounded fun. The name was suggested by a fellow Knights of Ni! FC member, Fite Me.

I sometimes roll in order to randomly pick a tank to play, but that's about it. Things like that are awkward to implement officially like in the form of roulette.

Well, if they'd add a way to "un"qualify a job for that roulette, I'd prob be okay with it. I level all my jobs to cap not because I necessarily like them, but because my inventory cries until I do. Especially for shared gear jobs. Like, I cannot stand WAR, just personal preference, but since it shares gear with PLD, which I DO like, WAR gets to borrow its clothes. But that Ala Mhigan axe is prooooooooooooooobably not gonna be great if it pulls The Burn. XD

They do seem to have decent gear weights, but adding a minimum ilvl weapon requirement to duties would fix this. So The Burn for example would require a minimum of an i340 weapon, on top of the current minimum total ilvl of I believe 350. Do that then make it work similar to levelling roulette where it checks what duties you're eligible for. Perhaps you could have a "Max level only" job roulette, and an "Any level" job roulette. Which wouldn't stop your situation, but it would fix your "Ala Mhigan Axe in The Burn will suck" situation.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

It might be hard to implement because the saved equipment set and matchmaking systems would somehow have to be tied in with each other. Right now the gear sets are just whatever you want to make them, and have really nothing to do with job changing mechanically.

Still, it's a neat idea. We'd probably all get tank and healer roles out of it, but maybe that's a good thing overall.

I'm afraid that it'd have more problems than gains.

Sure, there are people that would enjoy it. But there are many people that would quit instantly upon entering a duty if the job was not to their liking. And you implied changing to classes of lower than max level too...so someone could be dropped to a class they don't even have geared that they tried and hated. There is no way to remove an unwanted class after all.

And what about rewards?! If you use class below max level you cannot get the "new" tomestones. But what if someone cares about that?! They gamble on whether they'll get a max-level class or leave if they do not to not "use up" the roulette?! It cannot give the max level tomestones on a non-max-level class after all. They are a reward for doing a dungeon on a class that doesn't get experience. If you could get both experience and tomestone, the roulette would be broken. If you could not get experience, people that are still leveling some classes would be the ones to quit if it did hit on a 70 job.

So you could say to limit it to max-level classes...but then there are people that level all classes but never want to play them after reaching max. Whatever the reason they had to level them. They will just quit and there's nothing stopping them.

All in all, that roulette would promote quitting on arrival way too much. It is not worth it. The amount of drama it would cause when DPS would spend half an hour in a queue only for the healer and/or tank to instantly leave the dungeon just cause they used this roulette and didn't like their class/role would far overshadow any "fun".

So yes, just use a dice. You can buy a 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 or 20 sided dice. Using two 10 sided you can make a "100-sided dice". Just divide your jobs among the numbers and voila. It's a much less toxic-inducing method that is devoid of the reward...but also headaches.

They would have to completely change how the armory chest and gear sets work to make this possible. I don't see them doing that any time soon as it would also require that they increase the number of allowed slots for at least weapons and put a bunch of check and balances in to guarantee you always have a single designated gearset for every job as well as not allowing that gear to be put anywhere outside of the armory chest until it was replaced.

As long as we're synced down to (presumably the minimum ilvl for the roulette) or up to an equal ilvl, I'd quite enjoy this.

I like this idea, though I don't think I'd make it a duty finder roulette, myself. I think I'd make a roulette action button more like the Mount/Flying Mount Roulette actions. Tap the Job Roulette action button, jump into the queue for what you want, and call it a day.
