No, because this wouldn't be fun. It's a common JRPG trope to have two characters who are rivals but are clearly in love but don't want to show it. It's like Helga and Arnold. We love their interactions and this would be lost if they gave in and came together. It's more comedic to keep them going at it.

As for who is most likely to die? Who knows. Perhaps Thancred, since he's been there since the beginning and he's been protecting Minfilia since 1.0. Moreover, his background is extremely mysterious and we have no idea where he comes from. He's definitely hiding something (or many things) similar to Yda/Lyse. I think he will be our guy this expansion like Lyse was in 4.0 and we're going to be learning a lot more about him. Perhaps he's an heir to Garlemald (not all Garleans have a 3rd eye btw).

Also I think Paplymo will return eventually. He was consumed by the Tupsimati when binding Shinryu but there was never any burial or anything. Also, nobody knows what happened to Tupsimati after that day, so it's likely he will return at some point.

Well i think the person who was with Thancred will have more impact. After watching the trailer there are 3 conclusion i have.
First its either one of the twins but with amnesia (Don't hate me i just think that is)
Second Someone from another world like Unukalhai.
And the third....Who knows maybe someone from the past or future. It wouldn't be the first time this happens in a game of FF.
