There is no space limit for key items. The slots for them are created as need arises.

What you see when you open the key items bags is just the UI copied from the inventory. Those are NOT usable inventory slots that the game remembers. The only slots that actually "exist" are the ones filled with items. That is different from normal inventory where they are all apparently accounted for at all times.

Yes. However, Final Fantasy XIV also have the most usable items from all games I have come across. The problem is that there is no glamour log (which exists in many games removing the need to ever take slots for glamour) and the crafting is filled with tons of materials that are useful only for one, maybe two recipes, and are useless trash otherwise. There is however to way to easily search what the item can be used for. No recipe log for materials that would show you what recipes the material is used in. So there is no way to know whether it's something you can actually have a use for, seeing as most of the older items are rather trash once you outlevel them (which happens so fast that they may be simply trash to begin with).

There is a need to revise the inventory issues, but frankly, it's not the number of slots. It's the compilation of the actual items.

More you have retainers, more they will be filled and full fast. I understand the OP pretty well but... drop that habit of yours to keep everything. If you check carefully, you will see there are many things you can put to trash or sell. All tomes stuffs that are not used for glamour : trash, GC seals or so. HQ or NM gathering, are you really using all of them? Ask yourself this kind of question, you will realize you can get some extra space (but yes, the way retainers are working could have a better management system). Green dungeon stuff? Only keep interesting glamour.
I did this and I still have half ot things I should drop.

Look, I know you're called RareItems, but if you managed to fill up 10 retainers with stuff, I'm sure it can't all be that rare. You have some crap you don't need, guaranteed.

The space we already have in this game (even without buying any extra retainers) on a single character is *extremely* generous, more so than any other online game I have ever played.

I suggest going through it and doing a cleaning so you can start 2019 with a bit of space, before you likely fill it all back up again with SB2.

Sorry to break it to you, but that's not what's happening. They're not going to be supporting 32-bit any more, but it will still be there in the expansion because they've warned it may be more unstable etc going forward. Maybe a future expansion will remove 32-bit completely (like we did in the past with PS3 etc), but it's not this one.

I dont think that more inventory space is the way to go here - what we actually need is a proper, decent glamour log instead of this wardrobe-excuse we currently have.

While it is true that crafting materials and things like materia, tokens, bait, consumables etc. make out a huge portion of the inventory aswell, most of those get outdated - once you're in 5.0, you can ditch most of the stuff from 4.0.
The only thing that doesnt apply to is gear that you're keeping for glamour - and thats the main reason people keep gear: Because they might want to use it for glamour at somepoint, but its difficult/annoying do get. So... gear piles up on retainers.
Just giving us more space wont solve the underlying problem and would only be a bandaid-fix.

...and if you cant part with crafting-materials that have little to no use anymore, that might be more of a hoarding problem than anything else...

I just weeded through a large swathe of my nine retainers that were completely full last week - takes time to go through everything and see what is worth keeping and what is not. Some random green gear piece from a retainer can be work over 100k sometimes, while most are sub 10k. Some monster drops are pretty pricey as well if they are rare or if someone has drained the market of them recently. Even when you par it down to things that are, to you, worth selling via retainer, takes time to price and take a lot more time for it to actually sell if it's not something of a mainstream item. Not hard to see how inventory can get way from you.

While I would love more room in retainers without necessarily increasing the number provided - I would be happier with some inventory management tools. If you search your inventory for an item and see 5 different retainers have a couple, and you have some, and there's one random one in your chocobo also - takes time to merge all of those together. Would love a way to auto combine stacks. Or a "Dump All" button to give everything in your inventory that will fit, top down, to your summoned retainer. That coupled with a "Sort and Combine" would be great - leave "Sort" as it is for those having specific uses for it, but with a "Sort and Combine" would help free up double or triple groups of the same item.

Tackle box for bait would be great too, like the key items tab.

We need category bags instead of more retainers. The long demanded craft bag is an excellent way to start. Special tokens and currencies that are still out there bloating our bags, like 24man coins and crystalloids for example, would be another boon for our space. Once those things are implemented, then we can start debating if SE needs to put more retainers in the game.

As for OP, no matter amount of retainers you have in the game is going to help you. Or your wallet.

We will definitely need more armory space, another general inventory tab would be nice or just change one of the Key item tabs to general. Never understood why we needed 2 full tabs since we only have 5-6 things in it while leveling at the most.

I know in another game one of the reasons developers gave to limiting inventory space was to keep databases under control. Plus that game was coded where your quest items were in your general inventory, and locations would scan your bags to see if X item was present to fire off events, etc.

Of course, after saying this, they released larger bags for RL cash and then a massive 88 slot bag for the super expensive preorder of their expansion.

I think having a limited amount of inventory room adds a depth to player choices - to keep people from being ehoarders. If you want to make a sword, you may not have every ingot possible all the time... Or the ores, failing that. So there is a need to play to get that item - from other players or from the world itself. Keep the cogs of the economy grinding.

    Could be way off though.

I'd just be happy with being able to store my crafting materials in my house.
