Crashes before character select screen after updating 4.5

After updating my game for 4.5, I login to the launcher > hit Play > the launcher closes and the game starts loading, but then I get the following message:

"An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FINAL FANTASY XIV.

Then when I click OK, the game closes so I can't even get to the Stormblood screen that precedes the character select screen.

I ran into this same thing when 4.4 launched but I stopped trying to play after about a week, and then I randomly tried logging in a few months later and I didn't have any issues so I didn't think about it anymore but it's happening again. I don't recall if it's the exact same error message but it shut down at the same spot after clicking Play on the launcher.

I also made sure to update my drivers before posting this but the problem persists.

Any help would be great!

How long has this crash been happening? Does the game crash when running on DirectX 9 or just on 11?

The crashes started just yesterday (1/8/19) after updating patch 4.5. I was online playing just the night before the 24hr maintenance (1/6/19). Also as I mentioned in the original post, this happened previously around September but after trying to login daily for about a week with no success, I stopped trying and focused on school. Towards the end of the semester, probably around November or maybe October, I decided to try and login and play and things worked just fine despite me not having done anything.

I've tried both DirectX9 and 11 and it crashes on both. The error codes in the original post are from DirectX9, and I get these ones if I try DirectX11:

Also getting a similar issue where the game would disconnect me every 5-10 mins. i reset my router/computer even use with/without vpn.

Thank you for the information JuiceWilliams.

You may want to try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.try not to open any unnecessary programs and avoid having any overlays active when starting up the game.

Also try changing the compatibility to Windows 7. Right-click on the ffxivboot.exe file and select ‘Properties.’ Then select the ‘Compatibility’ tab and choose Windows 7.

If that does not work, you may want to reinstall the game. When you do that, make sure to delete the locally saved data as well (My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV). Make sure to create a backup of this so you can replace it if it doesn't solve the issue.
