Shadowbringers change to 64-bit and the Mac version

This is something that's making me curious, now that Macs are starting to give "this program is not optimized" warnings on startup of anything 32-bit. It was announced that the Windows version of the client would cease being 32-bit in 5.0, but does that necessarily apply to the Mac version as well? Or will the Mac native version be discontinued? This is especially important as future versions of OSX are slated to cease 32 bit compatibility entirely.

Wasn't it clarified that it was only the support for 32-bit was ending but that both the game and Shadowbringers would still functionally work with 32-bit? (Like how the game technically can still run in Win XP and Vista despite SE officially withdrawing support for them?).

But nothing about the Mac version, only Windows. That's my question--will the Mac version be part of this overall update, or will it be discontinued?

Neither. They won't be shutting down the 32-bit. They will simply stop programming with its limitations in mind. For example 32-bit cannot allocate more than 2gb of RAM to a single program, while 64-bit can. If they will come across something that will eat up more RAM than 2gb's, they will do it instead of cutting content till it fits.

It will affect anything that runs on 32-bit equally. And yes, if they will change how the older zones work eventually to make use of more memory allowed (most importantly), the game will become unplayable at that point crashing on just about anything for a 32-bit.

Unless the MAC version uses something like Wine as a "translator" (was it for MAC or for Linux that it did that?!), it should be the same for MAC as it is for Windows, because the underlying programming is the same.

As far as I understand, the Mac version does use a 'wrapper' in that way.

To clarify a bit, the thing that sparked this concern is that recently, Macs have been giving error messages/warnings stating "this program is not optimized for your computer" on the startup of any 32-bit application, noting that soon 32-bit applications will be unable to run on future versions of OSX. XIV is one of the programs that gave me this message.

Then first...Final Fantasy XIV does NOT have a native MAC version. Wrappers are nothing more than built-in emulators. You're running a completely standard Windows version of the game, through a third-party program that translates it. The only difference is that it was provided "built in" by the developer.

Second, it is a question to whoever produced that wrapper then. If it will have 64-bit support then it will work. If it won't, then you won't be able to run Final Fantasy XIV on your computer anymore...unless through means of an emulator of your own, of course. It may very well work with your wrapper-included version as a matter of fact, but that's just a guess. I do believe that someone did run that version on Windows and complained about being cheated due to false advertising of a "native" version, getting a non-native, wrapper-using game, after all.

It was stated that 32-bit support was ending since the percentage of players was around 1.8% or something. They said you could still play the game on a 32-bit system, but it would most likely crash continuously.

32 bit is evil, if you still have a 32 bit system in 2018, you really need to upgrade D: I'm pretty sure they are stopping support for all 32 bit systems, being windows or mac.

Right, but it's not about the system, it's about the program. I'm using a 64 bit system that soon will be incompatible with 32 bit applications, but FF14 for Mac is still 32 bit, and it was said that the Windows version would be moving to 64 bit, not the Mac--which leads me to assume that Mac will be left in 32 bit, even as OSX moves away from it--effectively, by implication, discontinuing native Mac support.

They said 32-bit support for the game was ending, I dont remember them specifying windows.
