So, the most practical plan of action is to just all make JP server alts and ready them for launch day among a playerbase subset whose concerns are more likely to be addressed?Just wait for 6.0... I'm sure 5.0 will still have its Raubahn Extreme, and as a result they'll plan more splits before 6.0. Hopefully that time Gaia/Elemental/Mana get hit too and the JP backlash magically results in a "Oh there's a better solution to all this!" somehow...
The most practical solution would be to play the expansion the week after release, if there are problems.
All I want is for all servers across all data centers and regions to be able to interact with each other, but also for it not to have any negative impact on instances.
Also, the servers should be moved to near me, but my friends on the other side of the world shouldn't experience any lag. Please make it happen, SE!

Does anyone with a Master degree in Computer Networking care to explain why? I don't of course but willing to take an easy guess at it.
All your character data; items, money, retrainer, ect.., is stored in the Data Center. It's easy to transfer that information within the data center because it's localized in the network mainframe. To move all that information to another data center means you have to transmit all the information over the internet which takes time and could possible lose information packets. How fun would it be to wait 30 minutes to load to a new world and find that some of your gear is missing?
Sorry to burst your bubble, but sometimes:

It would be the best thing to happen to this game if they added that in my honest opinion. Some people don't wanna leave their data center for whatever reason some do the ability to play on your main character and queue for with whatever friend on whatever data center sounds amazing rather than having x amount of alts for x amount of data center different friends. It's an amazing concept that would help alot of people is it gonna happen though? No most likely not. SE as shown in the past goes the cheap routes when possible on alot of things. I have hopes eventually it will come but I don't think it will at least not with how the current mindset is of the devs/upperheads at SE and regarding the spaghetti code/dying hamsters we have in which we can't even craft from our retainers for example.

pretty sure if they could do that it would have already been implemented when they added cross-server

This.^ The worlds in a data center are all connected to each other and share the same instance servers. Data centers themselves are completely separate from each other. All your character data; items, money, retrainer, ect.., is stored in the Data Center. This is by design to make it easier to manage the worlds and instances. Like having less people all trying to use the same instance servers at the same time, which as the start of SB showed there were still too many people at once.
Splitting up worlds to make a new data center is the best option in this case to help prevent that from happening again, or at least mitigate it.

To be fair, the instance clogged occurred primarily because they foolish stuck one ten quests into the MSQ. This meant the usual drop-off which would occur as players each progress at various speeds never happened. This problem was only magnified by making an instance for both Red Mage and Samurai in their opening job quest.This.^ The worlds in a data center are all connected to each other and share the same instance servers. We have a cross world party finder already.........Simple proposal sign below if you would of preferred to see a Cross Data Center party finder implemented first before the implementation of World teleport/data center shuffle? Honestly it makes more sense to do it this way than upsetting the community to me anyway. However this more a simple yes or no rather than can it be done exercise because if enough people want it, it will happen "points to chocobo being out while queuing for df" took em 4 years but they did it!
I am curious as to how many would of preferred it done this way.

We'll probably have DC cross-pf one day.
They just do things step by step.
Nothing to worry about.
