A concern about the World Visit feature

Let's say you're doing an alliance raid with a particularly salty party member. As the lead of your team, you initiate the vote-kick and the salty party member is dismissed.

There's nothing to prevent them from finding out your character's name and world via the Contacts menu and then teleporting to you and just launching a torrent of rage at you. Of course, you can blacklist them, but that won't prevent them from following you around or generally making a scene in /say or /shout (not sure if blacklisting only mutes tells or everything).

You could report their behavior to a GM, but that doesn't always mean anything. My concern is that, as cool as this feature would be to visit friends, it might also create a hotbed for griefing. Your thoughts?

People can do that anyway. I had someone make a character on my world just to harass me in /tell. People will always find a way to bother you. There's plenty of places they can't follow you, and blacklisting does mute everything. And you should report it.

    /blacklist will be enough

and you queue for another duty they can't follow you there.

i have no concerns for griefing? i go into my squadron room and they can wait outside. i can go into my house and lock everyone else out.

Anyone in a party can initiate a vote kick, not just the leader, so the person kicked wouldn't know who initiated it.

Blacklist does block say and shout, the only thing it doesn't block is emotes and emotes aren't gonna kill you, you can just ignore them.

It's not really an issue unless you choose to make it one.

Ahh I see. That's good to know. Yeah I've had people hop on a character on my world just to screech at me. I think it has only happened twice that I can remember. I have, I think, a grand total of 3 people on my blacklist and they're not on my server so I wasn't sure how much of them it would mute. They can emote me until they fall asleep at the keyboard, doesn't affect me in the slightest. It's good to know that although the potential for abuse is there, there are a lot of things that you can do to shut them up and shut them out.

This, anyone can initiate a votekick, and it does not tell anyone who initiated it.

I'm concerned about this feature, it's gonna be something cool, but at the same time I don't want nasty people I don't like coming to my server or to my house. I wish they add a way like, if they wanna come to harass you at your plot, an invisible wall stops them from coming inside your yard and house. I feel there won't be much privacy anymore. Or at least let us block people even if they are offline (not talking about the Contact list but the randoms who send tells and then disappear before you can do something).

Much like real life, it's impossible to completely prevent people from doing bad or mean things. But there's plenty of ways to respond to it, and they can still be punished. So if someone follows you to your world, says nasty things to you, follows you around, etc., make sure to be very detailed when you report them. Don't just be like "they got kicked from a duty and now they're bugging me, please help". The more in depth, the more information the GMs have to decided on disciplinary action.

lul, just blacklist and ignore what they say.

I'm far to busy with like stuff in game to pay attention to nasty people, they can shout to the wall all they want while I'm inside whatever instanced duty. Couldn't care less.

Don't let people like that take your fun away.

Ignoring their behavior is the only and best thing you can do (and file a report to a GM).

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Maybe don't be an asshole. You can't stop people from doing things like this, but if you avoid being an asshole then you're extremely likely not to encounter such a thing, even from people on your very own server.
