Is it a thing and will it ever be?
Why... why would you want that? If you really want to play without such warnings, you could just close your eyes and/or turn off your monitor.
Srsly, the whole combat part of the game is built around having them visible.
Quite some mechanics / AoE stuff in Extreme and Savage fights have no indication.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Yeah, but those have other indicators. Boss turns, starts charging something, ground starts shaking, etc. That's not the standard though. For most enemies, and even most non-raid bosses, the red markers are the only indicator you get.
I wouldn't object to this being an option to those who wanted it. I doubt it will be added though.
Well, considering you can't tell where the AoE's are going to hit without the markers, this would just make you a liability to your party, so i can't see them adding this.
Why would you want this? Most AoEs have no other visual indicators of where they'll hit. Having no markers would't make the immersion better, it'd just make you get hit by every single attack.
I frequently get invisible ground markers at Penthesilea.
Considering there are people who already have difficulty avoiding the giant orange circles, I sincerely hope this won't ever be a thing outside of the fights that have them hidden by design.
