Like Gemina said, that sort of thing already exists in some fashion in higher difficulty content. And that alone should tell you how likely the devs are to implement it outside of that content, even as an option.
Thing is, those mechanics in extreme trials (that I know of, at least) are all about baiting them. You know they're coming, the entire party groups up, then gets out of the singular danger zone they created. Good luck doing that with pugs, first timers, and overall casual players who stay out of extreme and savage in part because of mechanics like that.

As best, MAYBE, I can see them adding this as an option to pre-made parties. That way, you're not ruining any pug healer's day by dying to things you should've otherwise avoided. But if that's your cup of tea, maybe you should take on Savage in the first place.

I wouldn't mind having this option at least in gpose. I've struggled with taking "action" shots before because the mobs I'm trying to get a picture of keep laying down ugly AoE markers and ruining the shot.

So, what's really being asked for is a means to set snapshots to not include enemy aoes or to otherwise edit them out? Now THAT is a reasonable request!

I'd have to agree, though, that the effects should not be removed in the general case. As folks in the thread have mentioned, they're an important indicator to help avoid damage, and in difficult content where they are removed, a great deal of preparation and coordination is required to handle them - far more than could be expected from casual players in casual content.

If you want this just to make the game harder, I understand. You want a harder experience. The thing is, this is an MMO. If you were to turn off AoE markers, your Healers would start votekicking you after the 15th Rez.

You may want a harder game, but your party doesn't want dead weight.

But thats not on purpose. Thats more like the problem where you can't see your party members or mobs when there are way to many players around you.

Given the quality of people in DF recently, I'd say most of them already have this option enabled.

Seriously though, this will never be a thing. It'd make you a burden to any party. I could only see it maybe existing in solo stuff, and that's a big maybe.

Srsly, the whole combat part of the game is built around having them visible.
Quite some mechanics / AoE stuff in Extreme and Savage fights have no indication.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Personally, when I raid, I turn my monitor off. I gauge what's happening in the fight by the volume at which my static yells at me, but it makes for exciting encounters.

Yeah, but those have other indicators. Boss turns, starts charging something, ground starts shaking, etc. That's not the standard though. For most enemies, and even most non-raid bosses, the red markers are the only indicator you get.

If there were no AOE markers, where would the dragoons stand?
