FFXIV: Shadowbringers Teaser - A Question

Please let me know if this question was answered already, or if there was a thread made for this topic.

Who was the narrator of the teaser? I don't recognize the voice, is it the WoD from before? Or is it someone we haven't met? I'm starting to think we're hearing Elidibus' voice.

It's unclear, but my belief is the first narrator is Zenos (or rather, his Elidibus-possesed version), with the second 'Derplander' himself - it's the context of the dialogue that suggests it. But nothing is know for certain, as the trailer is deliberately ambigious.

I did a quick comparison and it seemed to be the same voice as the Warrior of Darkness, Albert.

It looked like there was some sort of time skip so I assumed it was an older Alphinaud narrating it.

There are a few different theories going on.

As covered in this thread already: Elidibus, Arbert, and (if we're headed for a timeskip) adult Alphinaud.

Another possibility is Zenos - the real one. As seen at the end of 4.3, his soul is in another body now, so we wouldn't be able to recognise his voice at this point.

My own additional guesses (again reliant on a timeskip plot) are G'raha Tia from the Crystal Tower questline, and Unukalhai from the Warring Triad questline.


Another question is whether the "mystery voice" from the dark vision in 4.4 is the same person as the trailer voiceover.

It's shown that it's a memory when the camera pans out and the Warrior of Light is staggering through wastes, being chided by an imp.
Thancred is shown escorting a shorter being through a building when they're attacked.

I think once the other two Fanfests complete, we will have a FULL trailer. At the moment, I think with what we are given, it's fairly straight forward. Balance between light and dark is tipped to much and we're on the precipice of another Astral era. Main plot will be fighting Garlemald, over-arching plot will be finishing the Ascians. Thancred has swapped over to be more offensive and is touting a gunblade, while the Warrior of Light is going to have to work for the darkness for a bit! I don't think that it was Arbert, I think that's us!

I'm hopeful that they wouldn't introduce time-skips, temporal anomalies, or any other timeline changing to the story.

The narration is played over footage of battling Zenos (presumably actually Elidibus) but that doesn't guarantee it's actually him - especially in an incomplete trailer designed to be confusing at this point.

He's not shown speaking the words then. The only 'live' speaking in the trailer is Thancred's part - the main narration voiceover is disconnected from what is actually happening.

We will presumably get to experience that fight in 4.5, as the MSQ dungeon revealed at Fan Fest is clearly the battlefield shown in that part of the trailer.

The main characters getting knocked out is eerily sinilar to Laguna dreams in VIII, plus the talk of rewriting history is a little on the nose.

I would imagine we dont actually see any time travel, we instead receive a vision or something from the future, and we have to make sure events take place in a certain way.
