That said, I don't hate the game, and maybe I'm wrong about it. But I'm just tired of the same old, same old.
After reading that it did make that game feel EXACTLY like warhammer/WoW combo, moreso like warhhammer in the game enviroments.

This has to be the most important thing I've read about MMOs in ages.
Rift tried to get out of the WoW-clone(and even more accurately, DAoC-clone...) rut, or so they claimed.
FFXIV and XI were pretty damn original, but XIV is still in its baby steps. Let's hope that XIV can at least be a stepping stone in the right direction for the genre.

the reason why Rift is so "polished" by a unknown, is said unknown stole the story from several Iron realms MUD. Same intro for a good few to rift. Same for the rifts and stuff. And The MUD are better imo. I looked up Rift and the story was too "the same" From several Iron realms MUD. What I saw was just a graphical version of all of then in a WoW mash pot.

Heck their tag line is "your not in azeroth anymore" like some fan made WoW clone f2p game.

Not gonna say Rift sucked, but it felt like playing WoW from scratch in another dimension.
I felt lost after a few minutes of playtime, nothing there really caught me eye to remember.
I mean things wasnt much copy & paste but it looked strangly out of place.

Played like 14 hours, rank 11 atm but cant say i hate it or like it either.
Just felt empty for some reason, like i already knew how to play & what to do.
Maybe because i played WoW for 3 years & FFXI for 5+ years.

Started as Mage, didnt feel like any tactis was of any use or even present, just spam spells
with little effect, especially dot spells.

Got into first City (meridion or w/e), 6-7mins in there, started to either
lag out or contanstly getting d/c few minutes after each time.

What i did like however was the immense "Talent" tree/root system.
The variety of options that could come from this is kinda cool, but sooner or later
ppl would pick the best patch much like in WoW when trying to out-dps others in raids / PvP.

Even PvP battleground in Rift was more or less just like WoW,
but it still felt pointless standing there spamming crap spells.

lol whats worse, trying to cast a Fireball spells... first u have to endure a rather lenghtly
display of arm-fallping swish swoosh before the actual spell is cast.

I mean jesus...c'mon just cast the freakin spell instead of swinging your staff around like some
crazy wanna-be-moviestar.... oh ya baby, im cool, check out my handywork with this staff...
swish-swoosh... bonk on the head, ouch wtf....

    CUT !!

    *Cool Scene Take 4*

    "quiet please".

    - no thanks, this is prolly the only game durin my 25years of gaming...i sadly regret buying.

RIFT's target audience is WOW burnouts. They specifically tailored the game to feel very familiar to WOW players, and that 'fixed' every problem WOW had (i.e. deserted world due to phasing, garbage PVP).

If you're not into WOW, of course you don't like RIFT. But it's still a great game and they're definitely a success story.

Hm makes sense, i did kinda like wow atleats up until some point, but it got boring after awhile.
Long hours of raiding etc, wiating for ppl to log in so the raid pt could start.

Too much simmilarities to an original game kills the fun.
So ya, im glad FFXIV isnt a WoW or FFXI clone atm.

But in all fairness, if FFXIV should be a clone of something its FFXI.. not WoW.
Besides, FFXIV's gfx engine sweeps the floor with both WoW / Rift.

imo FFXIV stands much better chance than Rift of surving this mmo era.

I never played RIFT but had a feeling it would pretty much another of the same ol' NA-MMO. Even tho being a westerner, I never could stand anything from it. It's all been eastern artworks, games, food and anime for me. Not bashing it just not my taste that's all. With that said however Guild Wars 2 might be the first exception to this rule of mine ever. They're taking their time for sure on it's release and will probably bring some heavy competition to both FFXIV and WoW and any other MMO out there.
