Two specific housing questions from a new apartment owner

Question One: Is there any easy way to get to my apartment?

I went to the main Aetheryte in Hingashi, selected the residential option, and picked "ward with apartment" or something like that. So off to ward 2. I then saw a Kobai Goten minor aetheryte next to the apartment building symbol, and off I went. But it said the apartment number belonged to someone else. I checked under my housing drop-down list in my menus and it confirmed ward 2 and the apartment number.

Eventually after some concern I realize there must be multiple Kobai Gotens in Ward 2, and that they can change with subdivision. So the game doesn't take you to the right subdivision, nor does it list the subdivision in your housing menu. Meaning lots more teleporting around (apparently "Southern" was the answer).

Other than writing down "Southern subdivision on a note and traveling around, is there any way to just be taken to the right place immediately when teleporting into a housing zone?

Question Two: How do I get an orchestrion to play a playlist?

(Spoiler, I found a way to make it work, but...huh?)

After a long search for my new apartment, I placed an orchestrion I had acquired. I right-clicked and soon figured out how to swap between categories of songs I've acquired and then add them to a (rather small) playlist.

I even saw the "play all", "shuffle", and "repeat" options at the bottom. I clicked and activated "shuffle" then exited the editing mode for the orchestrion. The same music that *always* plays in the apartment kept playing. I checked, and tried "play all". Same thing.

If I double click a song title lower on the screen it will replace the BGM with just that one song and keep playing even after I exit the menu. And only that song. After a lot of experimentation I discovered that if I do that first then hit a play option button it will work for the playlist. Seems very odd to make the UI so confusing.

Bonus Question Three: Is it just me or is some of this confusing for people new to housing?

Google was no help. Not the biggest issues in the game, I was surprised to run into such (easy to avoid/fix) things in the game. Anyway, next time someone searches for these topics this will come up for them. Have you run into anything that seemed needlessly complicated or lacking in proper indicators or directions?

Anyway, glad to have figured things out. I need to get my crafting up and increase my gil to really work on my apartment. And wow do I only have a handful of learned orchestrion roles

Secret Bonus Question Four: Other players removing items from your home?

I was browsing the mog station's housing section to get a sense of what item pricing is like and there was a warning that you could lose a purchased item if someone else takes it. I am guessing that isn't possible for ordinary visitors, only those authorized to move things (which is even possible in apartments). So that wouldn't be a worry then if I opened the place to the public and later bought something in the cash shop, right?

Question one: your apartment should be the first thing listed on your Teleport menu if you have All or Other selected.

Question two: Right click a song in your playlist and select Play All, Shuffle or Repeat there. I don't know why the buttons at the bottom of the playlist don't work.

Question three: Yeah, some of it is confusing.

Question four: Allowing others to visit your apartment isn't a problem. No visitors can remove anything from your personal housing. It's only an issue if you have a house and give someone else tenant access with the ability to place/remove furnishings. In that instance, the tenant could take some you purchased.

Mog station items can also be lost if you own a house that gets demolished and don't claim them from the Resident Caretaker within 35 days. Not a problem with apartments since apartments have no auto-demo.

Oh, you know, I never use the teleport button. Ever. Forgot it existed. Thank you so much.

As for the orchestrion, yeah, not sure what the issue is but the work-around I discovered is good enough for now.

Hmm, as or granting people access it's all or nothing, eh? No boxes to check/uncheck for "friends", "fc members", "public". And no way to boot people.

Oh well, I mean, how many creepy people can there be in a game like this who would squat and do disturbing things inside of another players home?

As many creepy people who would do it in real life if you couldn't call local law enforcement to get them arrested, of course lol.

I think that's an extremely rare problem in the game over all (though it does happen). I suspect most of those doing it continue just because they got a reaction from homeowner the first time around or because they've had other altercations with the owner in the past. Ignore them and don't give them the attention they're seeking and they're unlikely to come back.

Or go out on a limb and encourage them to visit your house whenever they want. I ran into a couple of people acting questionably in my house one day. I just started chatting them up while not commenting on their behavior and told them to feel free to drop in any time they want. As far as I know, they've never returned.

OK, just getting into housing, trying to figure lots of things out at once. If people want to troll in a mostly empty box, well... *shrug*

Well you don't actually to really worry about this part as it's simply not possible to give others permissions to your apartment, you're the only one who can ever change things in there (same with FC rooms). The option for adding other simply doesn't exist.

Private houses however you can add 3 tenants who have to be on your friends list. There's not a huge amount of permissions, but you can give them each the option to use the garden, add/remove/move furnishing or use the orchestrion (or a combination of the 3). With the furnishing though it's both add and remove, there's no "add and move only" option.

FC houses have a little more flexibility in that you can let people add items to the house/move things round, but not remove, but this doesn't work particularly well with storage (can't remove items to storage from my understanding).

But yes, sorry there is currently no way to remove someone from an apartment or house. But then if you've got someone hanging around in there, take a bow, you probably did a good decorating job if they like it that much :P

Ferries and chocobo porters, I would imagine. They're cheaper to use than Teleport (at least until you get to HW when Teleport is cheaper in some cases). It just means taking some extra time to get to your destination.

hehe i've got nothing to worry about, then

mostly i'm just curious about how things work as i never got into housing in other games but with my apartment in this game I am intrigued... but also gil and crafting poor for now, so i'm using imagination and doing "more with less" the housing does make me want to use retainers more for selling and to get my crafting going so that's a plus
