    What about Beastmaster?

Even hearing the mention of Beastmaster at the last Live Letter has sparked a fire in my Lalafell heart so I had to write this. I would love to see Beastmaster from FFXI in FFXIV but, NOT as a limited job like Blue Mage (poor BLU ) and here how I think it could work.

⦁ First off the job should start at lvl 1 in order to be able to obtain a variety of Jug Pets that can help with all the content throughout the game.

⦁ Jug pets can be obtained through Job Quests, dungeons and FATEs with a few here and there that can be crafted. Crafted Jug Pets shouldn't show up until at least after lvl 50.

Obtaining Jug Pets through Job Quests - The starting NPC says to go out and fight "X" number of mobs (lets say 50-100) to familiarize yourself with that mob and its abilities. These quests should come from the main NPC for the BST Job.

Obtaining Jug Pets through Dungeons - The original starting NPC for each dungeon gives these quests. You must complete each dungeon in order to have a chance at getting the Jug Pet. The chance for this drop should set at a certain amount (say a 20% chance) and the Jug Pet will only drop if the player has the quest active. If it doesn't drop before the 5th run through the drop rate increases to 100% at the completion of the 5th run guaranteeing it will drop. This will keep the dungeon grinding to a minimum while still making the player make a serious effort for that Jug Pet.

Obtaining Jug Pets from FATEs - This could work just like the minions do. Get the highest rank in that FATE and you get the Jug Pet (these Pets are also market prohibited).

⦁ Instead of creating a whole new style of menu for the Jug Pets the minion menu system that is already in place will work just fine. Players can just drag the Jug Pets they want out of the menu and put them on their hotbars, the Jug Pets that can be crafted could stackable items and the ones earned from Quests or dungeons can act just like a minion, one use and the player has it forever (these Pets are market prohibited).

⦁ To avoid adding a whole new stat to the game turn the base stat in FFXI (Chrisma) into something like Intelligence or even Determination. Mind could become the secondary stat.

⦁ All of the abilities from FFXI such as Charm, Heel, Stay, Fight etc. should work in FFXIV just like they do in FFXI no changes to these abilities should be made. These abilities are what made BST so much fun to play and always kept the player in their toes when out fighting mobs.

⦁ BST should be able to have a choice in weapons whether it wielding a staff for charming mobs or axes to fight along side their pet. Axes could either be the Great Axe (like Warrior) or you could add a new axe the, single handed axe. I'm totally okay with just letting Beastmaster use a Great Axe to cut down on the amount of work that it would take to implement the job.

Not to rain on your parade, but they literally mentioned "Limited Job" and "Beast Master" in the same breath...

Also what's proposed here would necessarily be a limited job.

Theres no way a Beastmaster would be a non-limited job unless it had 3/4 preset 'beasts' and could only be expanded via glamours, just like SMN.

Personally i think Beastmaster warrants being a limited job even more than Blue Mage.
There's nothing stopping a caster having a wide range of spells, but you cant give a pet job more than a handful of pets without making balance utterly impossible.

Beastmaster is also just a bit more of a niche job that it could fit in right alongside crafter/gatherers.
Unlike Blue Mage that people want to raid with.

It'd work if you homogenized the crap out of all of the abilities so the difference between pets are only "type". Which would frankly be lame as all hell. And let's not kid ourselves. The second they announce beastmaster you'll have all of these long time beastmaster "fans" popping out of the woodwork saying Yoshi shouldn't have wasted time adding a job you can't raid with. lol...

I respect your opinion but that was the least fun iteration of that. Your skills were different flavors of black mage abilities but with your pet getting charged with an element instead. Thank god for the CC or else I would have been seriously downed by the entire affair. The thought alone of all the pets being the exact same in function makes me wanna wretch. That'd be even more limited than pets in MS2

That's the only way I'd be able to see it working tbh if it wasn't a limited job. Or even a mainhand weapon (whip or whatever) and then their secondary weapon would be the pet.

I could see that working better for Puppeteer, they would only need the one pet.
Beastmaster with one pet would be worse than SMN.

I really like most of your idea. I think they could make "tank pet and "dps pet" be stances but you have equipment slots for both that let you slot jug pets into them and give players some choice. That would mean the pets would behave the same depending on which "stance" they are apart of though but I think it's a fair trade off to have BST in the full game.

Now, before people jump all over me for saying that, I did have an idea for the other aspect of BST from XI.

If they added BST, maybe have side content in Azim Steppe and then other zones in updates. That you do some sort of "ladder climb" like in fighting games but you have to build up your pet along the way. Could even bring in some of the chocobo raising mechanics from FFXI. This could be a single pet focused thing (each pet having their own ladder progress) or maybe you charm your most recently defeated enemy on the ladder. Then the final enemy could be something absurd.
