No you don’t. many have reached end game without completing hall of novice as it wasn’t there during initial release. You can learn on the go. It took me a lot of tries to complete all three role lectures. Always try nobody’s perfect.

I do not seem to kill the monsters fast enough. I am trying a different class to see if that goes better.

    THM/BLM basics:

    Are you ....
    • ...pressing the button for your next spell before the current spell finishes? This will queue the next spell to begin casting immediately, so that there are no pauses.
    • ...casting Fire until out of MP? Even though Fire and Blizzard have the same tooltip potency, Fire spells get a bonus while under the effect of Astral Fire. Later, at three stacks, Fire spells will do almost double damage (180%).
    • ...Transposing to Umbral Ice when out of MP, and then casting Blizzard until MP is full and Transpose is available again? This will give your MP time to refresh. Once it's full, you can Transpose back into Astral Fire and start spamming Fire spells again.

Ok, i re-did this fight before replying. Both to make sure i remember it right, and to see if it had changed significantly since i originally did it for the ring when it was introduced. If youre following the script of the fight then speed has very little to do with it. Lets look at the fight.

First enemy appears(dodo). Tank NPC engages. Nothing special here. You want to position yourself in such a way that the healer can tag both of you if needed. Im doing this by moving about 1/2-2/3 of the way between the healer and tank, and then far enough to the side so that any attacks targeting me wont splash either of them(and that any cones targeting the tank wont also hit me). Tag the dodo with your thunder DoT and do the normal rotation(fire to 0 mana, transpose, ice to full mana, transpose, repeat). During this section of the fight some other enemies will spawn one at a time(jackyls). The fight wants you to pick them up to keep them off the healer(the trainer says as much), so do so. Once they appear i just switch my target to them and cast normally(hitting them long before they get in range on the healer). Those guys go down quickly(only taking 3ish fires each - my position makes it easy for the NPC to heal me once ive taken a few hits so theres no problem), so i switch back to the original enemy in between. After a time the first enemy drops and the group moves forward.

Group of 3 enemies appear(puks). The trainer says to make sure you coordinate, so i do this by sticking to the tank NPCs target. I do this by targeting the tank, then targeting what he has targeted before i go into my attack spells(alternatively you could cycle through the 3 targets to see which one is losing HP from the tank and focusing on that one). These guys will go down quicker then the dodo(but slower then the adds from phase 1) and no one joins the fight. They seemed to all target me with their fireball attacks, so i danced from side to side out of the aoe circles. The idea was to stay in heal range, but not move the attacks close enough to be dangerous to either the tank or the healer. With good dodges you should take 0 damage during this phase. Again, normal rotation is fine - just focus one enemy at a time and theyll be gone soon. Soon enough the group is running forward toward the last enemy.

Big boss appears(goobue). The same basic triangle positioning should be fine. Make sure youre out of the cone that targets the tank, and keep in mind that the circle aoe it'll target you with is kinda large so give yourself room. For this dodge in particular because of how large it is, i would move out of the attack zone and then once the attack was over i would go back to my original space. This assures that any followups are still far enough away to be safe for the NPCs. Again, good dodging means 0 damage here. From there, its standard rotation and wait for the victory music to hit. If youve done this right the NPC healer will have no problem at all keeping everyone topped off and you shouldnt be in any risk of drawing the enemy's attention away from the tank. Talk to the trainer for congratulations and to accept your reward.

Thank so much. After following your instructions I was able to do it on the first try!
