    avoiding abandon penalty

Is there anything we can do about people who force quit the game to avoid abandon penalty when they queue in to a roulette they don't like? It's stupid that we have to sit here waiting and can't kick them when they're offline... not to mention they don't get any sort of penalty for doing this.

Well if you can prove they abused that feature to avoid the duty then perhaps you can report it to a GM, but these days it's difficult to confirm whether someone DC'd or did something on purpose with all the regular issues.

    Uhhh what?

You can't kick in the first five minutes of a duty, but you can most certainly kick them when they're offline.

what you do is you wait the 5 minutes and then wait another 5 minutes and see if they actually come back and they'll be surprised when they log back in they're still in the instance they didn't want to be in. unfortunately most other people won't wait that long =p.

If they said something before they left(aurum vale? f this im out) report them. Theyre abusing the system and the GMs will punish this when it can be proven. Obviously people who dont say anything and just magically disappear are different. Its hard to say for sure who noped out of a run they dont like versus who got booted do to connection issues. Personally i try to 3-man the dungeons in these instances(leads to a more fun and active run anyway, if a little slower - most trials arent that hard to 7 man either). If it wasnt on purpose, they come back to a slightly cleared dungeon and the group finishes no problem. If it was on purpose then i want them to come back and still be in the run. They dont get what they want from me. If they mouth off about it, now i can report them. If they vanish again then i want to waste as much of their time as possible without negatively impacting my life. Theres plenty of other things to do in the game, they can just eat the penalty and do something else for 30 mins. Or help us, and we'll all clear the instance in 15. But if they wanna play games, then i dont mind playing either.

Side note: Ive not tested this, but if someone is offline does it still count as a full group? Because you can leave a group that isnt full without taking a penalty yourself if youd rather not wait them/the kick timer out. Not ideal in all situations, but maybe an alternative solution.

if someone is offline they're still part of the party. i.e. you'll still be 4/4, 8/8. until they're gone and you're down to 3/7 that's when others can leave without penalty.

It would depend on how GMs process reports. If they have a record of all reports filed against a player, regardless of any action taken, you should report it, as it would allow the GMs to see a pattern. If reports where no penalties were issued are not logged/checked, there would be no point in reporting, as the GMs won't do anything based on a single report if the culprit doesn't say anything (could be an actual disconnect). Either way, your only immediate options are to wait or kick.

It's pretty bad when tanks do it. If the tank is kicked, anyone can leave without penalty, but only the healer will have a short queue if they decide to leave. If it's a trial or NM raid, you either wait 5 mins, which is a significant amount of time compared to the trial, or you pull and reward the dc.

That said, what would you suggest as a fix? Giving a penalty to kicked players would be used to grief and letting players leave without penalty if any member has connection issues would be abused. Being allowed to kick before 5 minutes have passed probably isn't an option for the same reason that there is no "difference in playstyle" option when attempting to dismiss, in that SE would prefer players don't immediately resort to dismissing others.

Depending on the dungeon, and the players, I like to just continue clearing. Most things can be done minus a tank, or a healer. It makes for some fun playtime.

One moment that sticks out, there was a healer that “mysteriously” disconnected after a tantrum. At the beginning of a DF run. Our party just kept chugging along slowly, during which time the healer came back online twice after the initial disconnect, the final time they went on tirade with all sorts of expletives at us for not kicking them. We managed to clear to the last boss, before we need to find a replacement for our offline party member.

I love doing this, but you should kick 'em before the final boss so they don't get the rewards for the clear.
