"A so-called mage of rather questionable character claims to have mastered an outlandish form of spellcasting that resembles neither black nor white magic during his voyage to the New World. Allegedly, anyone who purchases one of his soul crystals can learn to mimic the aetherial magicks of wild creatures. But can he be trusted, or is he merely a con artist looking to make a quick gil?"
Comes from the New World apparently. Honestly, I'd sort of forgotten the place existed.

Does this mean the job NPC for BLU is a Sharlyan? Or is there some other place that refers to Eorzea as "the New World" that I'm unaware of? Unless he is literally from some other world outside of Hydaelyn, though that seems a bit too outlandish. Mind you, stranger things have happened...
The New World is a continent/region west of Aldenard across the Indigo Deep that is more or less the Americas analogue. It's where corn and Mamool Ja come from. Merlwyb's (or some other Lominsan, might have been her dad or Mistbeard) big claim to fame is that she (they) led an expedition (or series of) across the sea to the New World and established trade with the natives there or something, if I recall correctly. Best off asking the Moose or one of the other loremongers for the specifics of that last bit.

It's in the lorebook in the section on geography. It wasn't Merlwyb or another known character though - someone called Ketenramm the Blue, and his voyage was in 1497 (80 years prior to the "present time").Merlwyb's (or some other Lominsan, might have been her dad or Mistbeard) big claim to fame is that she (they) led an expedition (or series of) across the sea to the New World and established trade with the natives there or something, if I recall correctly. All we solidly know is that the Mamool Ja homeland is there, and they seem to be somewhere in the ever-blurred-in-popular-culture Maya/Inca/Aztec realm of civilisations.
There's also the "New World" (native American) glamour set which suggests there is at least one equivalent culture there, and the page on Hyur says there is a population in the New World.
The Sharlayan homeland is the "Old World". I was confused by that for a while too.

Right. Thanks for that. Not sure where I got the idea that Merlwyb/other current Lominsan did it now.
So, basically BLU will be as accessible in lore as MCH are? I like that. I bet the purpose of "empty" BLU crystals is to store monster abilities.
I'm all for less restrictive jobs (or snowflake jobs) like BLM and WHM.

Ahh she found a safe passage across the Indigo Deep to the recently discovered western continent. So not the first person to go there but the 1st to chart a route that any other route at the time.
