It seems to me that a sizable portion of the defending is not for the job, but the content. I understand that people want new and exciting content. I'm just not sure why BLU had to be sacrificed for that content. For those that are happy with the current BLU purely because they get nice content, or that it is solo focused, or because of the Carnivale, would this satisfy you instead?

Taking the logos action system, why is fun and need, and taking it out into the overworld/premade groups in old content? That way, not just BLU, but every job can do what BLU is doing now (aside from BLUs gimmick of using monster spells).

-You can go out and find special logos actions and collect them.

-You can solo with those actions since they are overpowered and allow you to do so.
-You aren't stuck in the Trinity and you can respec to another role however you like using the actions

-The Carnivale can be a monster arena instead, so all jobs can participate with the logos actions in the same way

-BLU still explores the overworld to collect monster spells but those spells are balanced for normal content and BLU is no longer limited.

I understand that FFXI BLU purist doesn't like this idea, but this suggestion isn't for them. It is specifically for those that want BLU the way it is because they are looking for something new content-wise.

Content is Stale. Blue Mage is something different to do. It will be nice to go around doing old content and collecting skills instead of getting the class to and gearing up to max ilevel all over again. We have new classes coming in 5.0 that will be for.

Imagine that, but with EVERY Blue Mage you see.
Unlike other classes, BLU learns skills from defeating enemies, which means going out of your way to fight certain mobs. The average DF idiot doesn't even bother learning a rotation with skills the game GIVES you, so what do you think the chances are of meeting a BLU who actually has the required skills?
BLU will be great for a little diversion from the game. A cool little side quest. A little adventure all of its own that guides you to getting the skills you need.
But letting this out into the open where any moron can foul up a roulette would be a grave mistake.
You know what an easy.. really.. really.. REALLY easy way to make sure a BLU had its skills for roullettes and other activities? Achievements.
SQE knows exactly what levels the BLU will be able to handle getting its skills from different monsters and they could balance the abilities if they had a mind to do it, and they could bake those into achievements for level ranges (and have them be sequential unlocks)
    (Achievement 1) Learn X, Y, Z : Unlocks duty finder 30-35 for BLU
(Achievement 2) Learn Xa, Ya, Za: Unlocks duty finder 36-40 for BLU

Suddenly.. you have your open world content to go and learn these abilities, AND take part in dungeons and other normal activities.

Now, what about overpowered skills like doom and such. Well.. you have them operate differently if a monster is immune to the base skill. Take Doom.. why not, instead of killing the boss after X seconds, it deals a big chunk of damage. Take Bad breath.. for bosses or monsters that are immune to all the effects, put a dot and a +hit chance for melee for the duration. Take Mighty Guard, have it increase your (and perhaps those in a small AoE) defense for a short period (less than 10sec).
BLU would not be hard to balance and keep it's flavour. All SQE has shown so far is that they are not willing to do that.

And soon, it won't be a notion of "BLU is a nice little diversion" and will soon become "What job will they make limited just to say they made it and now we can't hope to see it in normal play?" because the community let them get away with it the first time and they think it's fine to keep doing.

This... I'd much rather them make over-world content that can be fun for any class (or some Over-world content for each kind of class) rather than make a new class that could maybe make the boring content there a lil more fun.. until it reaches it's own end game and runs out of stuff to do.

I hate to "well, actually..." things but...

Well, actually they've long been aware that they could do it the way they've done with all the other classes and put them inside a carefully balanced box with a specific rotation and set of abilities that has the flavor of the class but may or may not ever play like many of the older implementations or ever use the mechanics the job is actually known for. To think they weren't aware that a version of BLU could fit the same box as all the other jobs is just stupid.

Yoshida just didn't want to do it that way. Those interviews from 2014 highlight his thinking on this, that he wanted to do it this way instead of constraining it.

Also, I find it hilarious how many can already make judgments on how this system works and will play, with such comparisons as it's "just a variation of the Fishing log," before actually getting to play it or even seeing the system in action beyond "Action Learned" moments and a few slides. The ability to extrapolate such sweeping judgments from such little amounts of information never ceases to amuse.
